Days Ie Zlfffewhmg Pfmea NCD STAGE Or LIFE FILLED WITH MORE Within a few years you may forget the very first pr1nc1ple of the ccnjuga tion of a verb, but you will not, by any means, forget the good or ev1l tendercies that are grad ually developlng 1n your heart durlng these years of your llfe prfoarat1on How many of you remember the first t1me you ever whlspered 1n school, con trary to the teaoherts orders? You felt gullty for a long time, d1dn't you, and dre ded to have t e teacher's eyes turned your direction? But d1dn't get caught and second time you found so much easier, the third time you didn't think much about it, and it was not long till con- science kept still and al- lowed you to disobey that rule at pleasure, without a single reminder. You did not know then what it meant--it did not seem a very glaring sin, did it? But, boys and girld, it is upon just such little mis- deeds, as this seemed to be, that our whole charac- ter is based. Did you ever think of that? Possibly you are an 1- dler in school. You may you the it TEMPTATIONS learn more easily than your classmates, and have, after your lesson is pre pared, too much of that spare time that Saton so often contrlfeo to flllg or lt may ever be that you 1dle away t1FO UhlCb you should b devot1ng to study Thls 1S 1 llttle thlng, isn't it? Hardly worth ment1on1ng But do not forget that you are forming a hablt, and one that you w1ll not find it easy to break There are no h61ghtS worth attaining tha' can be reached with out olosetgpplication, and how can he, who has not formed the habit of appli- cation, hopg to succeed? I wonder if you realize how important a part the companions and associates of your school days will play 1n your after life. It is so easy to fall into ways of those you are con- stantly withg and, if they are not good ways, you are the sufferer. One person, who is saucy, rude, impu- dent, or vulgar in speech or manner, may contaminate a whole crowd 1n an amaz- ingly short t1m8s How much more easily do we gather and assimilate evil than good. On the other hand, one person, taking decided stand for tl right, will do much towarc leadlng others to follow for r1ne persons are el ways willlng to be led e1ther rlght or wrong, by the stronger will of the t n h person Try t boy and g1rls, and see if lt 15 not rlght Few of you seem to real ize what 1nterest teacher's have is etch one of you, how pained they are by the lack of inter est or by d1sobedience3 how proud of your advance nent and good c1t1zenshi , They recognize what you do not, that these, your hap- piest days, are also the most important ones, for they are the foundation stones upon which the fo- ture is builded. Going to school is yo' business--an intense bus ness, and must be eonduf ted along business lin If you keep this alway before your m1nds, ye will be more exact in per forming your daily duties, and will build such char- acters that you may look back to your school days with pride and satisfac- tion.e-THE LANTERN y V , I-,jx hi I .B - rg' , .
