Adown the lanes of memory bloom all the joys of yesteryear, And God has given you and me the power to make them reappearg For we can settle back at night and live again the joys we knew And taste once more the old delight of days when all our skies were blue. - Edgar A. Guest

SUMMA has become a tradition at Academy f Spalding. Under the joint ef- forts of the 1941 senior classes of Spalding and the Academy, the first Summa was created. As the years passed and the schools moved closer together, the making of the Summa be- came a unified effort. A goal that the Summa attempts to achieve is to provide a memorable por- trayal of precious high school years - years spent developing ideas about life and relationships with others, but more importantly years spent undergoing a growth towards adulthood. We present to you this year's Sum- ma. Academy and Spalding are two high schools that have contributed to Catho- lic education in Peoria for many years - Academy since 1863, Spalding since 1898. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Car- ondolet have always directed the Acad- emy. Spalding was founded by the dis- tinquished John Lancaster Spalding, the first Bishop of Peoria. We value our heritage and our tradi- tions and continue to be educators who strive to communicate Christian values and show perspectives that will enable the young people who come to our care to grow into happy and educated Chris- tian men and women who strive to come to serve God and country, and all peo- ple as responsible citizens. Spalding and Academy administra- tors, faculty, and students have moved forward in a spirit of cooperation to the extent of officially becoming one school as of July l, 1974, known as the Acade- my of Our LadyfSpalding Institute. 1,
