Ont- of the most important factors in the manzigv- mt-nt of any school is the maintenance ot' order and discipline, Fr. Sum was given charge of this duty, and under his direction the dc-merit, system was in- auguiatcd at Spalding, and has proven to be very successful. Besides fulfilling his dutivs as Donn, Fr. Sum also flenionstrated his excellent teaching ability in his trigonometry class. Because of his excellent guidance, he has won himself the icspt-ct and friend- ship of the entire student body, At the beginning of the second semester Father Sum was appointed assistant principal, succeeding Father Thompson, who asked to bt- returned to full- time teaching. SPALDING FACULTY The shortage of teachers made some changes necessary during the past year. Father Shiels was appointed Superior of the Viatorian Fathers at Alleman High School, Rock Island, Illinois and Father Williams added the duties of Principal at Spalding to those as Superior of the Viatorians in Peoria.
