Oun, ' P ' UttcifazC My dear Girls, In this âge of atomic energy, guided missiles, and artificial satellites, educators stress the need of educating students to take their places in our American Democracy. This type of éducation is most important, for the United Sûtes needs top citizens, intelligent voters, good neighbors, efficient workera, and, above ail, good parents and teachers. However, it is gratifying to note that you girls realize that you are citizens of a greater and better world. Your choice of the thème Citizens of Two Worlds” indicates this. On the firat page of the catechism you were uught that you were made to know, love, and serve God in this world and to be happy with Him forever in the next, Your retreat masters suted the sa me truth when they emphasized that min is placed here to praise, reverence, and serve God, At Baptism you were given a share in the Divine Life through sanctifying grâce, and this great sacrament made you a citizen of God ' s spiritual kingdom, the Church, If you are faithful to His teaching and persevere in the sute of grâce, you will be admitted to His Etemal Kingdom for ail etemity, Through ail your school days and in the years to corne be mindful of your dual citizenship, that of the great United Sûtes of America and that of God ' s kingdom. As loyal American Catholics, put forth your best always and everywhere for God and country, May God bless each of you, and the Holy Spirit give you the light to see your duties as citizens of our country and of God’s kingdom and the strength to fulfill them, Lovingly yours in Notre Dame,
