Guiding the destinies of Notre Dame and her students, i s oui Principal, Sister Mary Reginald, S.SJ t.D. Here she is giving Senior Frances Krummrich the results of her test in the Illi¬ nois State -wide Testing Program. 79te44ciÿe My dear Girls, You hâve chosen well when you selected the cardinal virtues for the theme of your year-book. These priceless virtues were infused into our soûls at Baptism and develop as we advance in knowledge and virtue. Without them our Christian life is hardly more than a name, and even our natural lives are less beautiful. JUSTICE gives every one his due. By it we recognizeGod ' s rightsover us and give Hlm the adoration, thanksgiving, atonement, and love that is His right as our Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier. It also benefits our neighbor for by itwe considerhis rightsand our duties to him. We ourselve are beneficiaries, for this virtue develops in us a well-ordered love of self. Often on our way through life, we are baffled and undecided. PRUDENCE indicates the course to fol- low and helps us recognize God ' s designs for us. Ail that God made is good.and it is our privilège to use ail His gifts to our best advantage. S in is an abuse of God ' s gifts. The virtue of prudence régulâtes our use of the things of this world according to God ' s Will and to our advantage. The right use of pleasure, food, drink, money, and ail of this world ' s goods hinges on the virtue of TEMPERANCE In order to carry out the program that justice, prudence, and tempérance indicate as expédient, the virtue of FORTITUDE is a must. Strength ofWillto do right and to refuse wrong is most important through- out life. Your holding to your motto, Daretobe different dépends much on the perfection of the virtue of fbrtitude. May God bless you girls, andmayMother Mary help you in the practice of these all-important virtues. Yours in Notre Dame, Sister M. Reginald
