M15 Hzffory The sweet fragrance of rncense and roses lrngers delrcatelv as we the graduates of 1949 rrse and leave our places IH the chapel NN 1th 1 he rvenly blessrng upon our heads and precrous dtplomas tsrgnedr 1n our hands we go forward to .1 new and drflerent l1fe We are settmg forth as rt were on a strange adventure w here experrences, acquarntances, 'md ways of lrvrng w1ll be new but rn each of us there IS somethrng very dear that wrll always brnd us together That somethrng tucked aw ay rn a specral corner of each fond heart, IS our memorres of Ivngsboro memorres w hrch began on that unforgettable twelfth of Septenrber, 194 , Let s turn back the calendar a few years to that crrsp late summer mornrng Remember We were barely out of prgtarls then and st1ll enjoyed an all day sucker Followrng upper classmen through the long corrrdor to the audrtorrum we took our places and, even though a trny brt scared we were feelrng as proud as could be that soon we would be a part of the bus tlrng actrvrty that was gorng on all around us A w arm welcome and kindly advlce from Srster Superror followed C. lasses were then assrgned and thrngs promrsed to be fine and rosy That op1n1on lasted only untrl we began to declme Latrn nouns meet hrstory book characters and helplessly try to fathom the famed banana spl1t 'Irue to the sprrrt of a C atholrc Academy the hrghlrght of our freshman Xear was the beautrful ceremony of Consecratron Berng d1l1 gent I'reshmen, we studred hard prayed hard, and we also played hard Who can possrbly forget her first head over heels toss 111110 the snow banks of Sacred Heart H111 or the first trme she took to the arr from sh , the w hrrlrng merrv go round? Desp1te our drfficultres w1th stud1es and our drsasters wrth plav, our first year sped by rncredrblv fast and was hlstory before we were aware ofrt Soon September rolled around agarn We the forty nrners, returned to school, th1s trme, smrlmg confident sophomores Determmed that our second year would be successful, we started out on the rrght foot bv really tryrng to conquer Caesar comprehend French and corner all the angles of Geometry As you may guess Gaesar remarns unconquered there IS unanrmous agreement that la langue francarse est drfiicrle, and Geometry we leave to Em stem exclusrvely Although we never have drscoveredjust how when une and finals arrrved we fared qurte w ell The L lass of 1949 always s1ncere fun lovrng and very class sp1r1ted was uncontestablv the MISSION L hampron rn 46 and 47 Almost all year long Snowball was ours and were we proud' It w as worth those sacrrficed cokes many trmes ov er All rn all our year as Sophomores was wonderful except that lust l1ke our lireshrnan Year rt became a part of our memorres too qu1ckly Half of our hrgh school days over so soon' That rndeed seemed 1mposs1ble yet 1t was true -Xnother vacatron and our unror Year was launched amrd enthuslastrc reun1ons The snappy new unrforms were one of the hrts of our Thrrd Year In 1947 some members of our hrgh sp1r1ted class took up busrness w hrle others QSt ude pray for usj contrnued to pursue the tlasslcs lhanks to our L ommercral Department a new method of fyprng Hunt and Prck has been rntrodueed and Shorthand has also been revrsed a la C lass of 49 Gregg has nothrng on us' Xs for l1fe w1th the college grrls to be we hopey, there w as never a dull moment Latrn III presented IIS drfifrcultres here there, and everywhere but we drd courageously struggle through L rcero s oratrons C011 w hy wasn t that man tongue t1ed'j We st1ll hav en t exactly rssrmrlated all the elements of C hemrstry but mrraculously we left the laboratory whole and entrre As a proof of the rnrtratrve of our class we started a school publrcatron the first ever and approprrately called rt Altror 1 Tenzpur fuqzt reads the Latm text and we heartrly agree for une wrthout ev en a warnrng popped around the corner brrngrng IIS roses and rts thorns that IS the exams' Phree cheers' It looks as 1f we all made the grade desprte groans moans and skeptrcrsm because three months later we found ourselves rn H S IX Senrors at last' To us bemg Senrors represented the goal w hrch we d been strrvrng tow ard ever srnce our first day as freshmen Its accomplrshment made us verv happv, but also verv thoughtful Real171ng that rt w as our verv .
