Academy stands proud and forever will remain proud of its outstanding staff of educators. We as students, rarely ex- press our gratitude for all you’ve taught us in and out of the classrooms, but we are appreciative. You’ve been our leaders and we’re thankful to Aca- demy High School for - without you we never could have made it! Thanks ... 4—Faculty

Dedication Francis Major: Spanish I; II; Ilii IV. A graduate of Pennsylvania schools — Academy High School. Villa Maria College, and the University of Pittsburgh — Francis Major devoted her professional career to area students, most of it with those at this high school. Her classroom was a breath of the life in Spain and Mexico, with artifacts and pictures reflecting her travels in those countries. She delighted in sharing her experiences with her students, who took many trips via her slides and mementos and learned not only the language but also the culture of Spanish peoples. Teaching and enhancing the skills of her craft have been very important to this educator. But her life has had many facets: she has sponsored clubs, assisted in the office, developed curricula, worked in several professional associations to improve various aspects of education. Her years of teaching English as a second language to Hispanics have been rewarding. As a teacher, as a friend, as a sister, as an aunt, as a person, Frances Major has earned an A+ for her efforts. Her service to this community — and the memories of that service — will continue to be an inspiration to those who have known her in any of her various life roles. Evelyn Peterson: Acct. 1,2; Personal Typing: Notehand: Treasurer. Mrs. Peterson retired last year after spending 38 years as an educator. She came to Academy in I960 and spent the next 22 years teaching all phases of Business Education — typing, shorthand, office practice and accounting. Mrs. Peterson loved to teach. She felt that it was a most rewarding career, and worked very hard to instill in her students a pride in their work. She was a thorough and demanding teacher, and as a result, her students were well-prepared to enter the job market. Upon graduation the business community and her students were grateful for Mrs. Peterson's excellent teaching techniques. In addition to her academic tasks, she was a member of the faculty senate, the school treasurer and assisted the cheerleaders in their money-making efforts. We miss this excellent, dedicated and caring teacher. Dedication—3
