QZQ. 1 Um aww T. S. Simpson homesteaded in Absarokee in 1892, and was the man who founded our town. In 1905, Absarokee consisted of a store, dance hall, hotel, and saloon. The first church was begun in 1899, and was finished in September, 1900. In 1905, the first school was started in the log cabin which is now Birman's garage, with Gladys Beasley as teacher. This was a subscrip- tion school which meant that people who had children in school gave money to support it. In 1909, Mrs. Chitwood taught school in the first district school which was located in the log house where Hetlands now live. Our grade school, consisting of eight grades, was or- ganized in 1910 in the same building in which it is conducted today.
