A young Californian sits in on this important meeting between General Sutter and John Marshall, at Sutter's Fort. It was John Marshall who discovered gold in California and started in the great westward movement to the gold fields in l849, Truly two of the most important men in the opening of California were these two. They were part of the personnel of the early days of our history in this stateg that is, they were two of the men who helped make California become a state.
