For 1980-81 based on district goals outlined by superintend- ent William Anderson andthe School Board, Principal Melvin Bowen has placed an additional emphasis on basics e reading, writing, and mathematics. We're looking at our instructional program to see where we can put additional emphasis in these areas. We will continue to abide by the philosophy of ALHS, recognizing the wide social spectrum of the Southside com- munityf' Mr. Bowen said. Students who want to learn more about themselves and people around them can take courses in psychology and sociology, while International Relations and Emerging Nations are courses which provide an in-depth study of our nation's welfare. Current lssues is a new offering that enables students to analyze important events in the news. l. David Sudol acts out his version of William Shakespeare's k'T0 be or not to be. 2. James Wickham decides to contribute to the class discussion. 3. Gordon Blenderman lectures to his eco- monics class, fondly known as Blendernomics. 4. Students react to Mr. Blenderman's lecture.
