SWIMMING Coach Loren Graaff The Abe tankers had one of their most successful seasons this year, posting a record of eight wins and two losses m dual meets while taking second and fifth in the city and state meets respectively. The mermen also splashed their way to several new school re- cords. Bill Nessen won the city and state diving title. David Sever busted swimming records for Lin- coln, along with Al Reynolds and Bill Nessen. New Records 100 yd. breast stroke — Dave Sever. 100 yd. backstroke — Al Reynolds 120 yd. Individual medley — Dave Sever Diving — Bill Nessen — 210.1. WRESTLING Coach Don Koroch Lincoln ' s wrestling team had a very successful season this year. The grapplers piled up an impres- sive record of 12 wins and one loss. The loss was the first wrest- ling meet of the season which they lost to Tech 20 to 1 9. The wrestlers tied for the city cham- pionship and took a second in the district meet, sending four boys to the state meet in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Three of the boys were eliminated in the first round but Larry Hayes went all the way through and won the 138 pound championship. The other boys who went to state were Art Mar- tinez, Jack Schamerhorn and John Brodene. In the individual city cham- pionship match Lincoln took two championships: they were Dick Ortega at the 127 pound division and Larry Hayes at the 145 pound division. Milo Harper Fred Meisters BASKETBALL Coach Mr. Talarico The basketball season of 1956 and 57 had a very good improve- ment over that of last year ' s re- cords and as far as its team play went. The boys greatly improved on team defense, and they show- ed well played and contested in- dividual play and poise in the games. With this year ' s gradua- tion, they will lose Jerry Brown, Larry Wright, Lon Piper, Doug Shaffer, and Bob Karnes. The boys coming up show a lot of spirit and determination. The graduation of Richard Barbour and Bill King and Larry Maxwell at the first of the season put Lincoln ' s hopes down a little but by shifting some of the boys down and around the varsity spots were capably filled. Richard Barbour was Lincoln ' s high scorer this season with a total of 117 points up to his graduation in January. Bill King had a total of 111 and Larry Wright, 93. Lincoln ' s game averaged 44.3 to its opponents average of 47.3. Lincoln ' s total team scoring was 709 compared to their opponents score of 757. The boys lost many games this season by only a few points and many of them were really heart-breakers. The Sophomore team did not have a very success- ful season; but, with a few new boys added this semester from Nathan Weeks, they should give a lot of help. With a little more experience and determination the boys are hoping for a better record next year. BASEBALL Coach Wayne Heintz The Lincoln High 1957 spring baseball team got off to a slow start this year because of poor weather conditions and they h ad little time to practice outside. The team has nine returning lettermen and a lot of sophomores out to build up the team for the future. The returning lettermen are Terry Travis, Jerry Brown, Doug Shaffer, Dennis Guessford ' David Sever, Bowen Campbell, Ed Hinkley, Bud Mason and Dick Selinger. GOLF Coach Don Ceynar Lincoln High ' s golf team has shown steady improvement. This year ' s team has a junior nuc- leous which could be very tough their senior year. Boys ' Team The boys ' team has on its ros- ter Cliff Rooney, Tom Mackey, Dick Warnes, Chuck Holten ' Frank Aiello, Jo Mazza, Ron Rip- ley, Jim Lawrence, Joel Heifner. These boys are either juniors or soohomores.
