They are twelve in number and are about evenly divided between boys and girls. Nine Commissioners are elected and three are appointed at the end of each school semester to serve the following term. They meet one period a day, five days a week, for solid credit, in Room 221, more commonly known as the Commissioners' Room. There, each commissioner has a desk, sharing it with one other commis- sioner with the exception of the Student Body President and his Secretary who have p-rivate desks. The Commissioners serve as assistants, in some respects, to the Main Office and the Department Heads. They have charge of various activities closely related to- the students such as sports, R.0.T.C., philanthropic undertakings, the Railsplitter, auditorium calls, and the sale of' tickets. To be a commissioner should be the aim of every student, for the position offers not only honor, but executive and character training, and more than any other student activity makes for the realization of Lincoln's motto: Individual Responsibility.
