BA EBALL L A The varsity baseball team, coached by Mr. Walter Bork, turned in the best record in over five years: winning fifteen and losing six. They captured the VVatchung Conference title with an eight and two record and received the sixth place seeding in the Greater Newark Tournament, the first time a Roselle team has appeared in that event. XVith double victories over such county foes as Roselle Park, Linden, and Scotch Plains, Roselle was seeded second in the Union County Conference Tournament. After defeat- ing Scotch Plains, they were finally stopped by Linden, the eventual XVTIIIICI' of the tournament. The leading pitcher was Eddie jones, who had the best Q earned run average, .71 earned runs per game, in the county. He also won nine games. He was ably backed on the mound by Bruce Bazley, winner of four games, and Roy Haythorn, winner of two games. The leading hitters were Stan VVanat, Reggie Smith, and George Seaman, although the other regulars displayed power when it was needed. The prospects are bright again for next season with all of the pitchers returning and a good junior varsity team to fill in the vacancies in the field. Bazley, Haythorn Jones FIRST ROW: R.
