Social Studies The special purpose of social studies is citizen education and the civic learning of each individual. Abington has as its goal the development of a contributing and productive individual possessing self awareness, knowledge, skills, and a sense of responsibility. The World Civilization II program in Grade 10 focuses on the nations of the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America in their geographical, historical and cultural setting. The American Studies program in Grades 11 and 12 presents an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the United States. It encompasses the history, the governmental structure, and the economic, social, and cultural development of our country from colonial times to the present. In addition elective courses are offered in Afro-American History, Anthropology, European History, Minority Groups in the United States, Psychology and Sociology. Dr. ).
