Dr. Nicholas Alexander Charles E. Schneller Robert 1. Winters The Abington High School English Department is in the process of implementing a new literary sequence, one that should be of great interest to Abington students. English II will focus on American Literature with such required writers as Hawthorne, Emerson, Steinbeck, and Hemingway. English III will concentrate on British Literature with such required writers as Chaucer, Shakespeare, Conrad, and Golding. English IV will emphasize World Literature, a new course that will present some of the world's greatest writers: Sophocles, Dante, Dostoyevski, Flaubert. The new literary sequence will be phased in over a period of three years. All of the above courses continue the in-depth study of composition, grammer, and vocabulary. In addition to the required program, the English Department offers the foiling electives: Acting, Creative Writing, Debate, English Composition, Ethnic Literature, Journalism, Public Speaking, Radio-TV Workshop, and Theatre Production.
