The beach is deserted with the exception of two misty figures beyond the third piling. The sand is smooth, untouched, it remains undisturbed in the absence of a summer breeze. The small waves, breaking slowly to greet the cool sands, and the still, gray sky reflect the calm of the early morning. A lone gull passes over the heads of a small group which treads the virgin sand and assembles near the water's edge. An atmosphere of deep reverence prevails. The two distant figures approach in curiosity, their fishing disturbed by the odd appearance of the intruders. Traces of puzzlement appear in the austere, weather-beaten faces. They are silent in a clumsy manner as they place their equipment down, watching in amazement as the minister clears his throat. The ceremony begins as he speaks of the fulfillment and beauty of love. In the tranquility of the early morning the souls of the small congregation are touched by the realization of the words that are spoken. Pinkish streaks blend slowly with the muted gray of the sky. The vows are spoken as the first delicate rays stream past the broad shoulders of the clergyman, radiating the joy already present in the faces of the young couple before him. The responses are hardly audible, so overwhelming is the intensity of their love paired with the awesome splendor of nature. As the couple embrace, the fishermen brush the tears from their wrinkled faces and a distant gullis cry greets the newly arisen sun . . . 7
