This year, because of the lncreasmg importance of driving in our society, all junlors were required to take at least a theory course in driver education For those who wished to take drlving as an elec tive, the school offered the practical part of the course in a new car donated to the school each year by Bryner Chevrolet It is hoped that through the extensive education in good driving given at Ab mgton, a dent may be made in the toll of trafic accldents in the future To insure this eventuallty a host of guest speakers, exciting dramatic skits, and sometlmes costumed instructors took to the audion stage under Mr Raymond Coleman s in splred direction to raise dr1v1ng instruction from dull routine to memorable experience The Driver Ed car threads its way through poles set up 1n the student parking lot Mr Secor checks Pat Medlin s driving skill as Sue Mousley and Gladys Taylor await their turns at the wheel X Q - fDa,a,l W V 'ir ' D. Abingtonians Ably Directed The Nlusic Department might be called .-Xbingf ton's public relations section. Through the various concerts and local appearances, our music units have put Abington on the social map. The vocal section includes the A Cappella Choir, junior- Senior Chorus, and the Sophomore Concert Choir. The annual Christmas concert, given by this sec- tion, and the spring concert are two of the most awaited events of the year. The instrumental classes include band and orchestra as well as the harmony course which is held three times weekly before school. lnder the direction of Nlr. Gott- shall, Mr. Gable, and Xlr. Shade, the Music De- partment continues to progress into the sixties.
