PIII UIPAL E. B. Gernert Secretaries Miss Doris Sllronk Mrs. Albert Armstrong ' ' .-f' ' .r . - . ince Mr. Gernert was principal when you graduated, I hardly need to tell you what a source of inspiration and never-failing guidance he has been to us. Yet with all of his respon- sibilities here, he has not forgotten you boys. Did you know, Jim, that he spent all last summer working with wounded veterans at the Naval Hospital? None of you will forget his faithful correspond- ence while you were away nor his cheery welcome when you came back. Through his leadership, our school has maintained its high standards, even under war con- ditions, and is now preparing its students to face the problems of the post-war world.

WI-IITE, SUPERINTENDENT chool Director During the time you have been away, the School Board has certainly been do- ing a fine job. Remember how athletes walked home or rode the P. T. C. if they missed the first bus out? Now these lucky studes ride home in school buses as late as 6:15. The School Board recently in- creased the amount appropriated per pu- pil for books for the library. If you want help with your individual problems, Mr. Lissfelt has more time to spend advising students. The townshipls comprehensive testing program has also been expanded. The war has changed many things in Ab- ington township, but, as conditions im- prove, the Abington School Board and superintendent will see to it that Abing- ton schools keep pace with the best. Commercial . . . Of course, we in the commercial course still think our course is the best in the school. We realize more than ever that with work slack- ening and not so many workers needed in in- dustry the commercial graduate must acquire speed and accuracy to the highest possible degree. Under the di- rection of Mr. Krueger we have sold candy for the flower fund and solicited advertise- ments and subscrip- tfons for the YEAR- BOOK and ads for the ABINGTONIAN be- sides our regular class activities. More students are choosing that course so that they can specialize in music, in art, or in home economics. Of course, there are still some generals who landed in that course when the go- ing got too stijf in classical or commercial or engineering subjects, but that number is steadily decreasing. The gen- eral course offers a well-rounded education with a wide choice of subjects, an opportunity that many students really appreciate.
