The Abington High School Green Wave — 1979 In the fall of '75, we the class of 1979 entered Abington High School for the very first time. As freshmen we began a search for ourselves. Our efforts were duly Freshmen and the gym for our first rally. As the days progressed we had our share of excitement; fire drills, bomb scares, and a walk-out over scabies. Just before Christmas we ordered our class jackets. Unfor- tunately we received them in the spring when it was too hot to wear them. We managed to survive the continual hazing by the upper- Sophomores rewarded as the treasury began to grow. By Thanksgiving we had or- dered our class rings. Finally we belonged, and were a definite part of Abington High. The school gained recognition when the band placed first in the Cherry Blossom Parade, and, suddenly, we were celebrities. Our sophomore year was not all peaceful however. In mid-January frequent fights broke out between the so-called Class classmen and even had some fun of our own at the dances or by just partying on the weekends. By the end of our freshman year we were beginning to discover who we were. But the year was passing quickly; soon we would be sopho- mores stepping up to the second floor. 1 'Jocks'' and ' 'Freaks.'' Luckily most of the issues were soon re - solved and peace was restored. In the spring came baseball and track, with the girls' track team undefeated and becoming league champs for the first time. All too soon the year ended, and we ea- gerly prepared to make the big move up to the third floor; upper- classmen at last!

The Abington High School Green Wave — 1979 History Junior year was the beginning of the end of our high school years. Part of the ' 'upper crust'', we began the year with a new admin- istration headed by Mr. Byron, and new class officers headed by Cathy and Terry, joined by (who else?) Betsey and John. Our ex- citement at being upperclassmen and our visions of a carefree year were short-lived as ' 'Lord'' Byron quickly showed that he intended to As seniors we became the ruling class, commanding the respect of the underclassmen. We selected as class officers for this, our final year, Cathy, John, Betsey, and Kevin. The year began as a promising one with the varsity football team defeating both Rockland and Hanover. Soon we received our senior class pictures which caused us to realize what Juniors rule with a dominant hand, Our class settled down somewhat as we worked together at the Christmas Bazaar and paid our dues to help raise money for the prom. As prom time grew near we debated over the theme but when the votes came in we had chosen ' 'Stairway to Heaven''. On May 12th we all flocked to Ridders following the Grand March and by the end of the night Debbie Edgren had been se- Seniors little time was actually left of our years at Abington High. As repre- sentatives of our class we chose Janet Lambert as Miss Abington and Maryann Majenski as Miss D.A.R. Most of our senior year was spent filling out applications, forms, visiting guidance , trying to decide in what direction our lives were headed. Any spare time was devoted to the preparation of the lected to reign as Prom Queen. Our weekend had just begun as parties at Danny's, the beach, and Mary Lou's were yet to come. With the thrill of the prom gone, we had only to look forward to the prestige and power we would in- herit from the graduating seniors. With this in mind we left school for the summer longing for the day when we would return as seniors. yearbook or planning the senior reception. Our graduation, rapidly approacing, will mark the end of a decade. The 80's wdll be a changing and challenging time for us, the class of '79. But we will always reserve a special place in our hearts for the teachers and friends who can never be replaced and the experiences we shared that will never be forgotten. 19
