We'll go over yonder. Together we can walk the fields of wonder. Stay with me a while out beyond the summer. Together we can run the fields of wonder. There's so much I don't yet understand the how and why of growing. Maybe if you take me by the hand we'll have an easier time of learning and knowing. For twelve years many of you have been together en- joying the same community, the same schools, the same friends and acquaintances. Your world has been Abington- home, family, school, church, sports, recreation, etc. After June your world will expand- new schools, new jobs, and with this expansion you will lose the togetherness upon which you have become so dependent. Togetherness was an essential part of the growing years but as young adults your concern must center on yourselves. Basically you alone will determine your fate. Your moral concepts, physical well-being, intellectual curiosity, determination and persistence will help achieve success and happiness. Set definite goals, plan, and pre- pare yourself to accomplish these objectives. Be willing to give of yourself. May God bless you and guide you to success and happiness. Sincerely, John A. Murray Principal ■■■■■I 4 DEDICATION The class of 1974 has dedicated our yearbook to Mrs. Esther Barnett, who has devoted her skill as a teacher to students at Abington High School. Through this dedication we demonstrate our ap- preciation and sincere thanks and we wish her health and happiness in the years ahead. MEMORIAM MR. HENRY TRIMBLE A man who had become what he could, And was what he was - Ready at any moment to gather Everything Into one simple sacrifice. 5 FROM THE EDITORS We came into our senior year not really knowing what it meant to put a yearbook togeth- er. We soon learned, though, that it meant building new friendships and strengthening old ones. We hope that in future years, through this book, you will be able to recall the memories of our TOGETHERNESS during our 4 years at AHS. We wish to thank our advisor, Mr. Stanton, the staffs, and all the people involved in making this yearbook a success. CAMPBELL SENIORS CLASS HISTORY FRESHMEN Once upon a time in the little land of Abington a group of nervous graduates from the Jun- ior High and St. Bridget's met, formed one merry class and trucked on up to Abington High. We elected our class officers, Jerry Casey, Valerie Trufant, Norma Wells, and Jeanne Doonan to lead us into the first of our four years. On a hot, miserable day we re- ceived our long awaited class jackets. All were dressed in green and white with the num- ber '74 printed on the jacket, big and bold. Filled with pride, we hung up North to let all others admire our trea- sures. Then there was the walk-a-thon. Blisters, soggy clothes, and raising money were our reward. We trudged 28 miles in the pouring rain to help prevent Muscular Dys- trophy. What surprise occurred at our class outing! The unsuspected got the best of us. Old Silver Beach was our destination. We had a few rules, but every rule has an ex- ception. With the changing of the dress code, formal be- came freaky. Dresses, ties, and suit coats were on the way out; dungarees, culottes, and hot pants were on the way in. That's how we ended our freshman year! SOPHOMORE Heading us into our sophomore year were Paul Gilpin, Sue Ferris, Ann Marie Nisby and Jeanne Doonan, skipping merrily. The first thing that was planned was a dance, featur- ing the Second Society. The big event of the year was a spaghetti supper. A dollar-fifty was an unreasonable price to pay for our soggy meal. Those responsible were cooks, waitresses, and place setters. In May there was the Boat Trip. Seasick pills or other medication was a must. The day was spent at Provincetown enjoying the sights. We left twice, retrieving some. Yet, as we turned back for a final glance, we thought we saw Jeanne and David. As we left the pier, neither the boat nor the class was in ship-shape con- dition. On our outing to Scusset Beach for fun in the sun, one very small bus took us all. Then there was the time of the Walk-Out, in which everyone ended up on the lawn. We hesitated to return because of our humiliation. Some of us went home, but others went up North. This was the year we started the trend for the Frolio gatherings and the ex- citement of those weekend parties. 18 JUNIOR In our Junior year we walked freely into the halls, feeling the excitement of being upper- classmen. Gary Minnehan, Michael Murphy, Ann Marie Nisby and Jeanne Doonan guided us through our toughest year. From quiet studies to talk studies we went. We were arm- ed with decks of cards, the latest gossip, and dimes for the juke box. If you could only have seen the Juniors jive!!! We relinquished the Frolio to the underclassmen and moved on to the pit. Even in our new hide-away, the C. D. 's always found us. When we heard the crunching of the wheels on the gravel, we knew it was time once again to dash to the nearest bush and be as quiet as a mouse. To add a little variety to our weekends, we headed down to Rexham Beach for a little extra fun and excitement. Then came the disap- pearance of the Jr. boys. The Jr. girls, with a little help from Sherlock, finally located them. They were in the Spencer's cellar, as usual! Our intelligence was finally put to a test when college boards and achievements were taken. For days after, black dots still appeared in front of our eyes. For months we waited for April 27, which came and went all too quickly. We danced to Pieces of April, chose our queen, Ellen Packard, and her court, and then posed nicely for our photographs. After the prom we went to Bobby Whalen's party, and then at the crack of dawn, pulled ourselves out of bed and went to Sue Ferris' for breakfast. Then later it was off to the beach. Then, on the last day of school, we, the official seniors, charged lunch tables, harrassed the underclassmen, and had one hell of a good time. LLLLJJLU LLUJJJJ LLLj J Ji LlijUJ Lin i) U'li L1J i SENIOR Entering in to the Big Year, we voted Gary Minnehan, Tim Shannon, Ann Marie Nisby, and once again Jeanne Doo- nan, with ambitions of the highest sort, to help make our senior year a memorable one. Most of our time was spent in the guidance office trying to decide on colleges and spending time with Mr. Hart and Mrs. Friedman. Our ral- lies were without a doubt the most hilarious and best that were ever seen at A. H. S. We'll always remember Chaquita Banana and all her friends, Peter Pan; featuring Judy Lynch's famous entrance, and all the Green Fish as graceful as ever. The funniest thing that we will never for- get was Mr. Murray and Mrs. Johnstone dressed in P. J. 's taking part in a skit. Most of all, we’ll always remember the Rockland Rally. Due to some unknown factor, OUR trophy was given to the Juniors. 19 Then to visit, Peter, Lena and Stephon came from Sweden. They had heard about our wild happenings and wanted to join in on all the fun and adventures. Maybe it was too much for them but Lena and Stephon soon left and Peter was the one left to try and give A. H. S. a little foreign culture. World War III broke out at Susan Mathieson's pajama party. United we stood (at first); but divided we slept. Our Senior year has come to pass, and we will always look back upon our happy mem- ories with the knowledge that we made the best of our years at A. H. S. As we leave A. H. S. a peaceful quiet will settle upon the school. Our regrets are few, for the good times were many!!! Class Officers and Advisors Our Senior year would not have been complete without the hard work of our class officers and class advisors of 1973-1974. Gary (Pres.), Timmy (V. Pres.), Ann Marie (Sec.), and Jeanne (Treas.) put a lot of effort into making our last year at A. H. S. a memorable one. The class of 1974 wishes to thank them for helping make our class one of the best classes A. H. S. has ever had. BACK: Mr. Nash, Tim Shannon. MIDDLE: Gary Minnehan, Mrs. Short. FRONT: Jeanne Doonan, Ann Marie Nisby In September, 1973, Peter Bavenholm of Sweden became an exchange student at Abington High School. Peter is a member of the senior class. In Sweden he had completed the basic nine years of schooling and one year of gymnas- ium. Gymnasium is equivalent to a college preparatory high school. When he returns to Sweden he plans to complete two more years of Gymnasium and then go on to the univer- sity to study music. Besides being in the stage band and the chorus he is very active on the soccer team and is in- terested in ice hockey. In his spare time he enjoys playing his guitar. We the class of 1974, thank-you, Peter, for adding an extra dimension to our senior year. We hope that it has been as fullfilling for you as it has been for us.
