At the corner of Broadway and Fufth Ayenue they saw the robust busy poluce vxoman Norma Wagner who was yelling and blowing her whustle try ung her best to control the pedestruans Contunuung on theur way they were startled by the sught of a super deluxe atomuc driven motor buke operated by Richard Rubart Richard beung yery congenial asked them uf they would luke a luft to theur hotel Druyung through Central Park Davud was astonushed to see hus former wufe Rosue Mangueru strolling hand un hand with her present Hance Lawrence Thurman uute upset oyer thus unhappy uncudent David decided to walk the remainder of the way back to the hotel Oh' Oh' there was Delores Stegall trying to steal some vuolets for the next evening s sale XValkung on through the park try ung to control hus temper wuth poor Donald traulung behund Davud without notucung ut approached 1 park bench and to his utter dusgust stumbled over someone s feet Much to his amazement he recognized Bob Way an old schoolmate Donald decuded to take Davud to the Stork Club to entertain hum and cheer hum up As Donald was tryung to get a cab George Mutchell appeared and took them to theur destunatuon un the Chevrolet he used to druve to school Hat check gurl Lous Wulkuns took theur coats and hats Then the bartender Stanley Olunger saud What ll you have boys? They settled for a coke Meanwhile the cigarette gurls Wandalee and Carollee Berry trupped lughtly among the tables calling Chesterfuelds Chester fields? Whule Davud was deyectedly suppung his coke he notuced two tall elegantly dressed redheads who had that come huther look un theur eyes It lust so happened that Don saw them at the same moment They decided that they would luke to meet these charming young ladues and approached their table with great expectancy Even theur udentuty from theur companions After a few more cokes cokes that us Davud was beginning to feel pretty chup per' Wuth the advice of the proprietor Kenny Iohnson the foursome decided to leave As Donald and Davud were wautung for the check gurl to bring theur wraps they spued a dreamy eyed fellow better known to us as Roy Smith trying to catch Lous atten tuon Upon receuvung theur coats and hats they all left the Stork Club Since ut was such a lovely nught they mutually agreed to walk to the Lonely Hearts Club where the two gurls stayed Because ut was 4 15 A M the housemother Beulah Wulkuns welcomed the gurls at the door Although the gurls knew that ut was past curfew they were relueyed by the thought that un a few weeks Miss Wulkuns would be returung to enter upon her new dutues as a housewufe on a farm They unformed theur escorts that the next housemother would be Muss Dorus Roudebush After budding the gurls goodnight Day ud and Don returned to the Nu Castle Hotel In the lobby Ross Sumkuns Hereford cattle buyer was umpatuently wautung for the 5 00 bus which was bound for Roberson s Dude Ranch un Texas Donald and Davud decuded to reture and took the uet propelled elevator whuch was run bv Doreen Murk to the 33rd floor As they stepped off the elevator a mes senger gurl lane Smuth handed them a telegram askung that they be present for the openung of Ioan Ray s veterunaruan offuce un Hermon What a surprise' As they proceeded to theur room they met Phvllus Palmer hotel detectuve and her aSSlStant Dorus Hopping carrying theur fifth suucude yuctum for the nught Don and Davd walkung slowly unto theur room were too exhausted to talk over theur experuences ofthe nught but we know the renewal of former acquauntances brought back many memorues of dear ole A H S 19 V l V V A - , Y V V l . . PROP!-IECY As the usual crowd descended from the Commando Chpper at the New York Alrport two gentlemen were seen to stroll through the gates and approach the taxl stand Any former Abingdon Hlgh School student would haye recognlzed the spruce Hgure of Davld XVllll3mS and the loquaclous personage of Donald Hale Haylng come to New York for an extended buslness trlp they sought a sultable hotel The electr1c sngns flashed and ghttered oyerhead and one especlally resplen dent an adyertlsement of the Nu Castle Hotel caught Don s eye They entered the lobby and after regnsternng and recexvmg thelr keys from the receptnomst Muriel Irons they were shown to thexr room by D1ck Snyder the new bell hop Upon enter mg thenr room they nearly colllded w1th the tram llttle maid Wanda Francls Freshly attlred 1n eyenmg clothes they wandered down to dmner yust 1n tlme to hear Manager Francls Wynkoop sey erely reprlmand the poor headwalter Robert Lan don for spullmg soup on Charlotte Rxley who was dmmg, wlth Harold Day One hour later Donald and Dayxd were comfortably seated ID the Shangrlla Theater ready for The Passlng Show of 1957 In the dlstance was heard the sweet mellow muslc of Fred Nelsons band Fred was playlng at the Shangrlla for S500 an hour o lf was posslble to hlr other star per formers lncludmg Bot Verner Cornetlst Don Meachum on the trombone and Gene Nelson at the drums The male sololst was Don Hallblck The Volce The g1rl sololst was the sultry blonde Marnlyn Medford who they promptly reahzed was ac tually Marllyn Meadows The dubonnet velvet curtam shd up and the lnvlng adyertlsements strolled across modehnf for her own recently estabhshed Fashlon Salon Leatrlce Lamont the famous actress personally advertnsed the sorh showmg of What Became of My Last Two Husbands? of whlch she was the herome Around the room there came an aroma of Sportsman s Cologne and Dxane Clme appeared smartly dressed nn a yade green r1d1ng habit representmg the Stegall Rndmg Academy The mam curtam then descended and rose agaln and behmd It was a hght blue fhmsy curtam through whlch they got a glnmpse of a chorus llne Much to their sur prlse they recognlzed Carolyn Guenther Ienelda Mlller Doralee Meadows and Eleanor Carter Cn thelr sparklmg costumes were the numbers 1957 to desxgnate the year Whlle Don and Dave crawled back to thelr seats the chorus lme left the stage and the famous comedlan Don Iohnson came sauntermg through the crowd crackmg lokes and causmg eyeryone to practxcally roll m the axsles Before they could catch thelr breath thelr eyes were attracted to a bold mndget of stalky bunld They knew xnstantly xt was Franny ohnson who had ney er grown slnce he had attended dear ole A H S The show vsas then concluded by Don Hasley who gayc a song and dance number entltled Show Mc the NVay to Go Home As Dayld and Donald descended the steps of the theater they were stopped by Delores Stegall who was clad nn rags and was trylng to make a hung by selhng ylolets They bought a bouquet and gaye Delores a nlckel for a cup of coffee 18 , .
