IV IARY CATHRYNE BULKELEY Vice-President . ............. ............,.....,.... . . .... Lois LoMAx Secretary-Treasurer ............................................ ANNA BELLE Bum Colors-Red and White Class Historq Do you remember way back when the Graf 1931,' took off for the Four Ports of Higher Learning? This was in 1927. VVe were piloted the first year by Lyle Pierce with co-pilot Duncan Morrison and Navigator Isabel Simpkins. After what seemed like a long flight through cross currents and storm clouds we anchored for a period of three months. In the fall of 1928 we again boarded our silver ship for a visit to Port Sopho- more. Here we took on board our new pilots, Mary Cathryne Bulkeley and Martha Weir and Lois Lomax, and for nine months we sailed with them thru social activi- ties and scholastic attainments. The course we chose was a direct one but squalls beset us and fog often enveloped the ship. Some of the crew grew mutinous and wanted to sail ahead and so tired of Port Sophomore we, in Sept., 1929, cut the ropes and started for something new. Soon we sighted the mooring mast of Port Junior. Our nine months stay here was one of great excitement and enthusiasm led by Bill Lewis, Walt Meythaler and Duncan Morrison. The versatility of different members of the crew was demon- strated by Bill Lewis, a member of the champion Basket Ball and in dramatics by the presentation of A Rose O' Plymouth Town . Other passengers excelled in their chosen subjects and as a unit the crew ranked high in scholarship. Some, how- ever, almost made a forced landing and laid up for repairs. During the summer of 1929, we rested and made ready a fresh supply of Gas, Energy, Vitality, and Brains for the last lap of our journey. A few for lack of aforesaid supplies were cast overboard as excess ballast but thirty-six with Pilot Mary Cathryne Bulkeley and assistants Lois Lomax and Annabelle Bird continued. How we studied our compasses and excelled in scholarships will be a beacon light for all Seniors in years to come. The presentation of It Never Rains and the chartering of a chapter of Nation- al Thespians were spot lights in our Senior flight. The publication of the TATLER and the hurry and worry and pleasant excite- ment of Class Day and the anticipation of Commencement Exercises made the year pass all too quickly. Graduation day lies before us and beyond that the bright beacon lights to which each one of the thirty-nine members of Graff 1931 will pilot his own Silver Ship.
