DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY.” Inaugural Address January, 1961 ■ MW— ,,.. 111 ! John Fitzgerald Kennedy Thirty-fifth President of the United States May 29, 1917 -- November 22, 1963 He was not himself a man of easy and meaningless sentimentality, but one of sinew and purpose. We did not see him playing upon our emotions like some of our great political figures of past and present; usually he spoke of the issues, calmly, ignoring that part of us which asks for fatherly indulgence. He made us think. That is what w should do now, with strong feelings for the memory of this good American who served us well; with distress, but not with despair. , . ...... . rti ■ Flag flies at half-mast in mourning for President. 10 ;v ; M B ffl lnBIlIlH HHHm ADMINISTRATION Mrs. Mary Lucille Reed Secretary Mr. C. No one heard her; yet she did not walk unnoticed. She rarely spoke except when spoken to and then her voice was soft and low. Her mind was sharp and very quick. She had a ready wit, but was slow to anger. No one ever heard a scornful word come from her lips. No one ever spoke a malicious word against her, for no one had reason for such a desire. She was a lovely girl with a smile that could have made the coldest heart warm. One drawback she had -- a weak heart, still no one ever heard her complain. Then on Saturday, December 7, 1963, as doctors worked feverishly to mend that weak heart, beautiful Peggy Goodson breathed her last at the age of sixteen; and no longer did that pain throb in her chest. Peggy no longer treads the long, dark corridors of Abingdon High, but perhaps a little bit of her still lives in each of us. May it grow in our hearts so that we may have the truly Christian character and the confidence Peggy felt in our Holy Lord and God. 36 SOPHOMORES Linda Bailey Peggy Bailey Fonda Barker Jimmy Beattie John Bell John Berry Tommy Berry Emma Bevins Leslie Birch Wayne Blackwell James Blevins Brenda Boggs Jane Brown Alan Campbell John Campbell Zane Carter Candy Catron Betty Sue Childers Billy Childers Martha Christian Harvey Clark Jimmy Clark Larry Crane Clayton Doss Candy Dunman Eddie Dunn Randy Eads Jerry Eggers 38 Co Co X h O Maria Fern Betty Flanagan Patty Fogleman Gerald Foran Raymond Fritz Dewey Fulton Emily Garrett Joyce Garrett Allen Gentry Kitty Gray Mary Graybeal Linda Sue Greer Brenda Groseclose Mary Gunter Roger Hall Gary Harless Peggy Harless Judy Hamer Mike Harris Kenneth Harrison Elizbeth Harwood Rebecca Hayter John Paul Hefner Charles Herndon Benny Hill Sharon Hill Bobby Inscore Rose Mary Jackson % 39 0 Susan James Evelyn Johnson Tommy Kent Christine Kestner Peggy King Melody Lawson Sue Lewis Roxie Lowe Susan Lowry Frances Mann Harold McCall Wayne McCall Julian McConnell Margaret McConnell Patricia McCormick Jackie McCrady Lillie McFaddin Edward Me Fall Ted McThenia Janet Miller Randy Miller Joyce Millsap Billy Mink Patricia Minnick Buddy Mitchell Kenneth Mitchell Jane Moore Robert Moore 40 Wayne Moretz Don Morrell Delores Morrison Mary Musick Pauline Musick Libby Musser Bruce Odum Linda Owens Glenda Parris Debbie Patterson Brenda Phelps David Pippin Doug Pippin Leon Prater Laurie Preston Bill Price Linda Raines Julia Ramsey Gary Reed Lee Reed Sam Repass Jimmy Reynolds Virginia Reynolds Thelma Roark Dean Roark Pat Roberts Ray Roe Tommy Rollins 41 Raymond Sailor Mike Shaffer Charles Shaw Steve Smeltzer Helen Smith Pat Smith Ray Smith Sammy Snead Danny Statome Tommy Stewart Lena Stout Jenny Stringer Pat Sweet Ruth Ann Taylor David Tedder Emma Thompson Jo Anne Tignor Larry Van Hoose Tommy Waters Larry Webster Joyce White Annette Widener Jean Williams Kenneth Wilson Media Winebargar Hilda Woodby Jane Woolwine Karen Wright 42 NINTH GRADE Barbara Able Janet Anderson Penny Arrington Elizabeth Authenreath Mary Ruth Bailey Winston Bailey Vickie Bateman Tommy Beattie Delcine Berry Frank Black Roger Black Charles Blackwell Patsy Blackwell Brenda Boggs Glenda Bordwine Ronald Bordwine Connie Bosserman Gregory Bostic Steve Bowling Mavis Brown Kathy Browning Jimmy Bundy Patricia Bussey Keith Campbell Linda Campbell Mary Campbell Ray Castle Sue Castle Billy Childress Linda Clark Charlene Colley Theresa Combs Lee Counts Larry Crabtree Gary Crookshank 44 Jenny Crookshank Lena Cuddy Connie Dalton Paul Dancy John Daugherty Tanyua Dickenson Mary Doss Alvin Faw Carol Ferguson Jo Ann Fern Joy Fern Patricia Fields Carolyn For an Larry Foran Carla Fritz Myrtle Frye Michael Fugate Gene Goad Richard Goodson Charles Gregory Mary Jane Gregory Sarah Harris Doris Hatcher Marvin Hawkins Mildred Hawthorne Ben Heath Linda Helton Peggy Henegar Stephen Heslep James Hicks Jimmy Hicks Keith Hillard Linda Howard David Hutton Norma Jackson 45 Phyllis Jackson Paul Jenkins Jennifer Jerrue Brenda Johnson Judy Johnson Wayne Jones Frances Kiser Susan Rolling Jeanie Kreger Johnny Lloyd Judy Lloyd Elizabeth Lowe Jeff Lucas Coy Martin Garret Mathews Frances Maxwell David McConnell Brenda McCray Barbara McGuire Brenda McVey Don McVey Glenn Miller James Mink Patsy Minnick Joe Moore J.
