CONTENTS Here is a story of people . . . SENIORS, the honored group of 1961 and the FACULTY who taught them so well. CLASSROOM WORK and ACADEMIC EVENTS are the environment in which these people grew. FOOTBALL HOMECOMING is a part of that growth . . . the crowds, the queens, the losses and the victories. To replace the graduates are bulging CLASSES of 8th graders. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors. These, then, are Abingdonians . . . working together in an atmosphere of education, sports and modern living. A big part of modern living is COMMUNITY COMMERCE . . . doing a fine job of sup- plying our needs with goods and services. 4

To those who have read over and over again, the ills of the educational world, we ' d like to direct attention to a different type of story. There are no ailments affecting this community or this school. Abingdon is doing a tremendous job of teach- ing us to live together in the modern world. Education is living and education we get, but far more. We’re learning how to win and lose . . . how to love and respect. We’re learning that doing is almost as important as learning. We ' re teaching ourselves to enjoy now what we can enjoy later. We ' re working hard today because tomorrow the work i? no easier. We are proud of Abingdon’s academic program, of the scholastic standards we are setting in this state through a coordinated curriculum that teaches us how to live as well as learn.
