- 3 Bitsy Gruver, Hollis Manly, Welton Lindsey Boyd Rogers, Victor Womack, Sam Henry Smith, Margie Givens Student ,llssacirzfirffz This year the Student Council has had as its aim, The main- tenance of a successful school year and the establishment of a program of all-out effort for the defense of our country. Each member has worked diligently to provide for a successful school year, as Well as sponsoring campaigns, assemblies, and other drives for defense. Such things as collecting l,482 books and l,34l magazines for the United Service Organization, providing civilian defense registration among the students, and selling 35,902 Worth of stamps and bonds show the value of our Student Council. The excellent cooperation of the student body has made it possible for the Council not only to maintain the regular duties of such things as milk fund, hall patrol, lost and found, bank system, flower fund but also to carry on successfully the additional program of defense. The election of Abilene High School as the president of the Texas Association of Student Coun- cils proves the efficient Way that our Council has carried out its aim. Page 22

She was an ideal person to have as a friend, for she Was always aenuine, cheerful, and helpful-one who would comfort and inspire. When she had passed, it seemed like the ceasing of exquisite music.
