Hvmmaudcrs-in-Khicf l PRINCIPAL H. S. FATHERREE, B. A. Every individual in Abilene High School is asking himself what he can do in this emergency to aid his country. Many channels of service are removed from us. Qlder men will do our fighting, our ship building, and our diplomatic Work, older shoulders will bear the load of transportation, nursing, rescue, and other duties. One giant task remains for us - to gird our- selves for the great task of carrying on. To us from failing hands is thrown the torch. lf we build carefully, honestly, in- dustriously, and soundly in character and citizenship, We can hold high the torch which will shortly be relinquished to us. Ours is the opportunity to equip ourselves with those enduring qualities of sound citizenship so that leadership and citizenship in the future shall not fail our country. H. S, FATHERREE. :..-....-

Hammaudars-in-Hhicyf ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL D. B. WEATHEBBY, B. A., M. A. May We pause to think of the many Wonderful privileges and opportunities that we have been enjoying and in so doing refill ourselves with patriotism so fervent and ardent that we, as true citizens of our homeland, will go about our Work of national defense and of the making of this World safe for democracy in such earnest fashion that success will decidedly crown our ef- forts. Let us all continue to do our part in winning this great struggle into which We have been forced by our enemies, even though these parts vary from that of the practice of rigid econ- omy at home to that of meeting the foe at the battle front. May each of us realize with seriousness just what We owe to our own United States and do our part cheerfully. Let us feel a thrill in doing our best to keep the Stars and Stripes Waving. Let us go on with enthusiasm and establish the glory of democracy throughout the World. D. B. WEATHEBBY Q --i z-..-'
