MAYHEW as N 1 .Mig ,Q 1 'N Xt At an Abilene football game, one always sees a man near the Abilene bench, standing or walk- 1 ing with his hands clenched behind his back, nervously chewing a cigar, but always with his eagle eyes watching that struggling group of players on the field. That man is Coach Dewey Mayhew, the man who for many years has shaped teams to win or always to make a strong bid for the District title. Mr. Mayhew expects the best from his players, and he gets it. Through his efforts two Abilene football teams have been State champions, and an Eagle national relay team has set a State record. Mr. Mayhew not only ably fills the position of football coach but also instructs students in the study of government. Every student who has ever associated with him notices that three of his outstanding character- istics are his honesty, his strong character, and his firm belief in square play. There is no student who has ever associated with Coach Mayhew who has not profited in many ways from the association. DEWEY A. MAYHEW W. K.
