lx' '.. 1 .Q 'ifffqan V FM.- -4 BEAM DOES HIS DUTY WITH A SMILE On Friday, November 5, with the score 6-U against them and only two minutes to play, Abilene staged a comeback drive to check the winning streak of the Stephenville Yellow Iackets. The Warbirds were outplayed until almost the end, but the old Eagle spirit finally asserted itself to inspire the Eagles to make a powerful drive that took them to Stephenville's I2-yard line. Then alter two line plays Rachie Hughes swept around end for a touchdown, thereby tying the score- the Stephenville counter coming earlier in the game. When Zolus Motley swung his foot for a beautitul conversion, he proved that a place-kicker can amount to something besides excess bag- gage, for that extra point won the game for Abilene. This was Stephenville's iirst year in the Class A division, and in spite of their lack oi experience, the Yellow Iackets were surprisingly strong. Their strength lay in their specialty in tricky, unexpected plays. Their one touchdown resulted from a play so elusive that it had even the fans puzzled. On this play, the halfback slipped back for a pass, and the rest of the backfield drew Abilene's defense. The pass was completed for a touchdown. Later in the game, after being the chief factor in the BU-yard drive that put the ball in scoring position, Hughes smashed the ball over from the onefyard line. The try for point was blocked.
