THE EAGLES AND BUCKIES WAR On October 8, a rabid crowd of Abilene fans watched the Eagles, paced by their brilliant little field general, lames Beam, and B. H, Hughes, stellar lialfbaclc, romp over a scrapping Eastland eleven by a score oi 21-Ei. The Bulldogs put up an unexpected battle and the Eagles had plenty of trouble in getting started, but at last teamwork overpowered Eastland ior a decisive victory. ln a windswept game on October 15, Abilene High School pulled the cover oft its offensive Class, sadly lacking in earlier showings, to boot Brownwood out of the quadruple tie for Oil Belt leadership by the large decision of 49-12. Twinl-:letoes lames Beam flitted to two firstfhalfytouch- downs, and in the third quarter the Eagles scored another counter, then with a decisive victory already assured, the Warbirds turned loose and poured iour more touchdowns through the disor- ganized defense of the invaders. After Abilene's score had mounted to 49, Brownwood thrilled the two thousand five hundred fans when the Lions ran eighty-tive yards for a touchdown. Final score: Abilene 49, Brownwood 12. -5' DUB SIBLEY P. H. HILL CLAYTON LEACH Page 92
