Department of Geograhpy “The best geography department in Texas,” was the statement of Mr. Ritchie, M. A., who taught for a short time in the depart- ment as a relief man. It is true that under the able leadership of Professor Kennamer, this department has been pushed to the front, not only in the college curriculum, but also in the geography association of Texas. Since Geography in the college curricu- lum is of comparatively recent origin, only within the last few years has it been brought to the South. Professor Kennamer is given the honor of establishing the first geography department in a church school in America. His work during his recent absence has been left in charge of his capable assistant, J. Sulli- van Gibson. LORRIN G. KENNAMER, M. A.

About thirty courses are listed in the curriculum. These courses range from the simplest Freshman courses to the most difficult English essays. The division of Public Speaking is efficiently directed by Professor Brewer, recognized as a master in this field of instruc- tion. Teachers, preachers, and seekers after various other professions can enter this de- partment and receive practice in speaking as well as the benefits of constructive criticism that proves invaluable. Department of History and Economics History receives emphasis in consider- ation of the fact that this department has been established only a short lime. An excel- lent library is at the service of the students who would do research work. Historical works are being collected by Professor The value of history and its universal study is stressed. This year, the curriculum was extended to include a number of compre- hensive courses that were not previously offered. A census from the various classes of the college reveals the fact that there are a num- ber of lower classmen who are planning to major in History.
