Baldwin the college orchestra did some splendid work during the first of the year. It was composed of six violins, four cornets, one clarinet, a slide trombone, a melophone, and a piano. Sevral programs were rendered at the college and at the Y. W. The four first violins played a quartette for the B. Y. P. Without our second team, it would have been impossible to have developed our first team. Each man on the second team worked hard from the beginning and did his part toward developing a winning basketball team for A. C. C. Several of the men are developing rapidly and we expect to see some of them on the first team next year. The ability of the second team was shown in their game with Midland College, which ended 26 to 12 in favor of A. C. C’s. second team. Line up for the game was as follows: McDonald.........................Forward E. Shepard...................... Guard Wright Guard Srark Ulnutta One of the most scientific and charming phases of Athletics is that of Tennis. It is scientific because only few participants ever reach the point where they can be classed as stars in the game. Ten- nis is an art, which is developed and not inherited. If a man is a physical giant he can play football with little training, but this is not the case in the game under consideration. It makes no dif- ference how hard or well proportioned your muscles, they will avail you nothing if they are not guided by a well balanced brain, and This leads to one reason why the game is so charming. When a good player has reached his best he is able to send a curving serve over the net with such swiftness that only “Practice makes perfect” can explain. The opponent, on the other hand, if he is skilled in the art, is able with an underhanded swing to defy all rules that the amateur has so firmly fixed yi his mind, and return the ball with similar speed and accuracy. Another charming feature about this win in competition with a boy. This can be said about very few out- door games. Equally as delightful as the two points mentioned is a pleasing consolation that age has little to do with the sport so freely enjoyed. The game is not too slow for the young and vigilant, nor is it too fast for the last stages.
