Dedication Mr. Pat Rowe - Practicing to be President. The Senior Class of 1976 has chosen to dedicate their year- book to Mrs. Gloy Wride and Mr. Pat Rowe. The class has appreciated these teachers for being friends as well as teachers, for understanding the students viewpoint and for not just teach- ing by the book. The class will miss Mr. Rowe's big fat laugh, his big black mustache, and big crazy humor. The class wants to acknowledge Mrs. Wride's help and support in their many class projects and in individual problems and projects. To them the class of 1976 would like to say Thank You. The combined efforts of both band and choir were used in the musical production My Fair Lady. Concerts, clinics, and festivals are other activities for music students. PEP CLUB OFFICERS: Sydney Hoagland, Pres.; Lori Poulson, Sec.; Robbin Barlow, Publicity; Geri Horsch, Treas.; and Karen Duffin, V. Pres. They could have pepped up any wagon train! This was the year when the Pep Club retired the old orange sweaters that were brought in by Lewis and Clark and bought NEW ones that don't itch. The girls can yell louder now because they don't use energy scratching! This is a great club! 44 Pep Band David Quinstad and his beautiful blowers. Every game takes on more excitement when the Pep Band begins to play. What rhythm! What trills! What swirls of syncopation and harmony! Everybody within reach of the music keeps time, and all the little tiny girls in town join the pep club girls as they do their glove routines. FFA F. F. Treas.; and Randy Hulkovich, St. Council Rep. 47 Tiger Club Coach Hoagland, Athletic director of Aberdeen schools, and the Tiger Club members. Officers for the club are Brent Copeland, president; Bernard Judge, Bill Howard, and Randy Hulkovich. The Tiger Club has remarkable administrative powers. We waited and waited for them to elect officers so that we could take pictures of them, and the Club just kept rolling along officerless for the longest time. Perhaps they were waiting until they could be sure they would elect the very best. Tigers are fellows who have lettered in a sport. They have big muscles, big letter A's with lots of little letters hung on them, and they don't attend their meetings very well. We like them a lot, anyway. 48 Getting the Work Done The Office Staff A crew of handsome students helps Mrs. Ralphs with the office work. Kyle Edwards, Clay Poulson, Shawna Duffin, Tammy Carna- han, Melanie Pierce, and Vanessa Verbeck are pictured here. Electronics and Communications Mr. Me Dermid teaches a manly crew the manly arts of magic through electricity and its accompanying cords, plubs, mikes, speakers, inter-coms, and such. Sam Schultz, John Shi- ply, Scott Yancey, Bruce Loweer, Tino Lucero, Kelly Phillips and Stan Jones stand at attention here. Library Aides If they look busy, that's because they are. Mrs. Huls has a top-notch group of help starting with Bavia Huls who is filed away in Reference and including Lori Rupp, Tammy Carnahan, Kathy Corbridge, Barbara Thomas, Linda Feh- ringer, and Vicki Wilde. 49 Homecoming Queen Sandra Hulkovich, attendants: Cindy Beck, Tammy Treasurer, Julie Peck, escorts: Jim Reed, Damron Parrish, Jerry Hege, and Chris Reed. Todd unlocks the door for Kim, Karolyn, Cindy, and Linda while riding the fourth place Junior Float. Anny Oakley Fehringer rides again. Pilgrim Huntsinger with her prayer book. The wind huffed and puffed and blew their house down. The only thing that blew harder than the wind was the pep band. Hands up Elaine!! 54 Lori, Jan, Tammy, Ann, Rusty, Joey, Steve, and Gary are a few of the Sophomores riding the second place float The cream of the crop’' The freshman spun their way to a third place victory. Candidates are: Marcia Heaney, Wendy Wahlen, Julie Peck and Debbie Savage. It’s cruelty to animals to keep the Tiger caged up inside. A half ton of Seniors. Wendy and Geri came formal. Look What Blew In! Lots of people came home to Home- coming, and so did the famous old West Wind. The Drill Team shivered, marched, and chattered their teeth to the rhythm of the Pep Band. Floats floated, ripped, and scattered bits of decorations over Aberdeen, Big Hole, Fort Hall, and points East. The American Falls Beavers huffed and puffed and blew down our hopes for victory, but they couldn’t make a dent in the enthusiasm and pep of the week’s activities, climaxed by the big dance at which Sandra Hulkovich was crowned Queen. The cheerleaders led by cheer queen Melanie Pierce made the fun of the week especially exciting. Pep Club girls, directed by president Sydney Hoag- land, deserve heaps of praise for the beautifully decorated dance. 55 In this year's production of My Fair Lady,” the music department lived in the fantasy land of kings and queens for nearly three months. They dressed in tails, top hats, lavish gowns, and surrounded them- selves in the facade of royalty. They waltzed beneath a crystal chandelier in a ballroom of mir- rors and gold while the orchestra spun a mist of magic over the performers with music fit for kings. It looked and sounded so real and smooth that onlookers would never guess that for just one scene, it took nearly 80 peo- ple working, countless hours of preparation, and the flying fin- gers of Lori Poulson, the over- worked pianist, to make it all work. Only the orchestra, per- formers, and crew remember the revolving scenery that wouldn't revolve, the lights that wouldn't go on (or off), the candle that wouldn’t stay lit, the microphone that thought it was a pogo stick, the beard that wasn’t, the solo clarinet that got plugged up, or the nearly-fatal dress rehearsal night when Lyle Larson was chas- ing cows down the road some- where in Springfield. Melanie Pratt was the Fairest Lady of them all. Lyle Larson, Mark Wallace, and Darrell Treon were the men who shaped her life. Diane Adams, Elaine Isakk, and Ernest Landvatter filled demanding roles. Strong support- ing roles were played by Melanie Pierce, Kent Rowbury, Philip Christiansen, Brenda Christen- sen, Kim Stallnecht, Byron Duf- fin, Gerri Horsch, Cindy Beck, and many others. Steve Brown, Lenn Ward, Cindy Krehbiel, Margo Funk, Gerri, and Kim performed outstanding technical work. Wesley Callihan and Sam Schultz worked with sound and lights. Room does not permit acknowledging all who helped, but the hero of the entire production was David Quistad, director and impressario. When the crowds cleared and the final performance ended, all were thoroughly exhausted, but still reluctant to leave the bright lights and music of My Fair Lady. 58 59 Powder Puff Once each year the junior and senior girls put on pads and helmets and practice football like mad for a week, and then they have a historic battle. Thuds, groans, squeals, giggles, and cheers fill the football field. Limps, black eyes, groans, bad backs, and bruises accompany the girls from class to class. For some strange reason, they love it. The juniors, with coaches Brent Copeland and Leon Adamson soundly defeated the seniors, coached by Melvin Nilsson and Leonard Larsen. Barbara Thomas and Cindy Krehbiel con- centrated on dashing up and down the field for touchdowns. The grinning - winning Junior team. Luscious Senior cheerleaders: Mike, David, Russell, Bernard, Don and Brad Enticing, Leggy Junior cheerleaders: Bruce Rick, Todd and Damron. . . . The Junior stars celebrate with happy coaches! The Seniors mourn at half-time, while . . . Sadie Hawkins Welcome to Dogpatch! The Yokums and all their kin folk and kissin' cousins gathered to honor Lil Abner, Rusty Mitchell and Daisy May, Lori Whitworth at the annual Sadie Hawkins romp. Music from the Suntone shook the ole rafters and made for mighty fine stompin'. Marryin' Sam and Sadie (alias the Quis- tads) tied a heap of knots - some of which came unraveled puny quick. There wuz a feller who took pichures and there wuz a kissin’ booth for shy folks. At the pie-eatin' contest, there wuz a real exhibishun by Melanie Pratt and Vince Kucera. The Jun- ior Miss Pageant, 1975, sponsored by the Aberdeen Jaycees, was a spectacular success from beginning to end. Eight charming senior girls displayed beauty, grace and talent to a most appreciative audience. One at a time, or in group numbers, each girl was winning material. Eight years of memories in two old schools that are gone forever. Mr. Rowe's folksy quilters. Nothing keeps Mr. Verbeck from his appointed rounds. The three wise men and friend. Mr. Sparks' class putting it all together. David Quistad has directed the activities of the music department for the past three and a half years, and in such an exceptional manner that he has set a standard we will not soon forget. The productions of Man of La Mancha. South Pacific. and My Fair Lady have been a source of pride and delight to the community as well as to the school. Additional performances in concert of such music as Bach's Magnificat and the Classical Evening in March of 1976 have added more luster to the department and to the high school musi- cians involved. Dave's dedication to excellence in every way has earned the respect, admiration, and love of his stu- dents. We don't want to say goodbye, Dave, just so long and come back soon. We also want to acknowledge the skill of Mr. John Won- derly, our supervisor of transportation. We all have come to take it for granted that whenever we need a bus, it will be ready to go with a good driver. Mr. Wonderly keeps all the buses and equipment in top condition, and we see him here with the big wrecker truck that has been working cheerfully along for Mr. Wonderly decade after decade. Here we have proof that kids really work at school, and that wherever kids work, there are several others who are happy to watch them work. Sam Schultz, photographer A Photographer has to be a little bit rela- ted to a fireman. When the picture is wait- ing to be taken, the photographer has to answer the call. Sam Schultz has taken pic- tures for the yearbook for three years. We want to give him special thanks for the time, effort, and help that he has given to us. There is a narrow shelf-lined room in the school, that is filled with ancient books, broken trophies, discarded posters, a skele- ton (and its filler), a temperamental heater, a file that atomizes pictures, a broken desk, a wooden thing that no one can identify (and the section that hooks on to it), and a table that holds the materials for creating a year book. In this exciting atmosphere, the annual staff editors toil every day. Helping them when the need arises are the other members of the staff who take pictures, plan pages, sell ads, help on picture-taking days, and provide moral support and ideas. Put it all together, shake well, and out comes the 1976 Annual. The YEAR of the BICENTENNIAL: Red, white, and blue. We have tried to put some of that flavor in our book this year, and we hope that we have suc- ceeded. It has been an interesting year - the year of the new absentee policy that was discussed and cussed for months . . . the year that some of the more thoughtful and gentlemanly senior men generously presented American Falls with a real Bicentennial gift - a genu- ine antique outhouse. In our opinion, A.F. showed a definite lack of gratitude and appreciation when they returned it so fast. It was the year of Brett Gonzales’ mumps and his Auto Mechanics Ace Award. It was the year that Mickey Chandler fooled everybody and graduated. It was the year of mood rings and pet rocks and middy skirts . . . of early morning drill team practices that really paid off at competition. It was tlie year that Sam got his hair cut and Jerry Hege got to Art class on time one morn- ing. The year that Aberdeen got national publicity for its record-breaking purchases of shampoo . . . the year that the furnace broke and added a little spice to the routine, as we attended school at the school, at the church, and especially on the road in between. It was the year - like almost any year - of some friendly two- somes' Brad and Jan: Chris and Robbin; Brent and Lori; Craig and Kara; Clay and Betty: Sam and Kris; Robert and Michelle: Chuck and Joy . . . It was the year that the seniors painted the rec room so that it wouldn't be the wreck” room . . that Dave Quistad worked magic with the stage lighting . . . that Pat Rowe kissed us all goodbye at mid-year . . . that tennis practice started when there was still six inches of snow on the courts. It was a year of fun and work and wins and losses ... of friendships and close- ness - a good year - and we wish you all many more. . -«0- - ' '- - V ' 'k - --., V .,-. --' - -;-••• '-C r-'- . v - . « • • ' t • • ’ ’ ' ' - . • ■ • . • • ;' - - • . ?
