CLASS In the fall of 1950 a group of nrnety bewrldered but determrned people destmed to become the vtc tors of 56 entered the hallowed htlls of old A H S Eager to become a part of the school lrfe thrs class fully partrcrpatedrnthe lCI1V1t1eS of the school and many were among the fans thtt rooted the Eagles to vrctory rn the state basketbrll tournament In the sprrng the class earned the frrst of many trrumphs as the class play Inslde a Krd s Head won the play contest As e1ghth graders they held a tea dance the frrst of therr socral affarrs and of course the students managed to frnagle therr way out of many classes to make prepzratron for thrs gala event The freshmen class of 52 53 emerged as one of the most promrsrngclasses rn the hrstory of Aberdeen Hrgh School It was rn thrs year th1t the Wheels of theyunror hrgh began to develop therr talents The ranks of the athletrc teams were swelled by future Eagle stars rn Gross Swann Lrndes and Clessuras and rn Ross Reuyl Soth and Roebuck No one wrll ever forget the hrghly successful freshman assembly wrth Bob Lrndes as Dangerous Dan McGrew Durrng thrs excrtrng year we moved to the new hrgh school but the freshmen grrls were practrcally stranded rn the confusron The eprsodes lll Mr But krewrcz salgebra class wrll be cherrshed rn the mem or1es of those who partook of them When the freshmen gave therr frrst real Frrday nrght dance they felt that at last they were an rnte gral part of the sprrrt of A H S Thts was borne out rn the second annual varrety show Bye Bye Baby 1n whrcha good representatron ofthe cl rss of 56 par trcrpated Thrs rllustrrous group then took the great step mto senrorhrgh school As sophomores they brought wrth them the get up and go that was to rnsure therr prommence among the classes of Aberdeen Hrgh Thrs year brought the class many new contacts and experrences but when the novelty of berng sopho mores wore off the students then realrzed that semor hrgh drd have a lrttle work attached to rt And too the class of 56 had begun to rnsure tts posrtron rn the school especlally on the athletrc freld QQ HISTORY It wrll be hard to forget the day that the sopho mores went rnto mournrng for Gertrude the mascot of the brology class The memorres of the class tmp to Hershey Pennsylvanla the nrghts at the dlner the labortous days rn Bernre sclass and the mrssrng pamt brushes and frnger parnt jars strll lrnoer rn the mrnds of the students The Junror year was a year of memorres The frrst annual Homecomtng was a terrrflc event and mtny juntors were 1n the forefront rn makrng rt a great success The varrety show On the College Campus starr1ng Hap Stoller and Claudta Whrtsel supported by many otherjunrors was one of Aberdeen Hrgh s best performances One of the funnrest parts ofthe varrety show however occurred not durrng the show but rn the dress rehearsal when the costumes of the grrl s krck chorus began to frnd therr way to the stage floor The football team showed themselves to be un derestrmated by the sports wrrters when they closed the season wrth a 6 2 record as they completed thetr frrst wrnnrng season After tyrng the Bel Arr grrls twrce the speedball team lost the trophy by a close margrn A junror studded varstty basketbrll team worked tts wayto the se mr frnals rn the state tourna ment The cl rss realrzed how far they had progressed toward the end of therr hrgh school educatron when they recerved therr class rrngs rn March 1955 The crownrng glory of the Junvor year and therr hrgh school years etme when they began to work on the Junror Senror banquet and prom Wrsh rng to make the proman unforgettable occasron the junrors secretly scurrred about from gtrages to cellrrs to lodge halls and even to the town dump to rnsure that the lrttle detarls of decoratron would be taken care of All thrs work proved to be of great worth for Sprrngtrme ln Par1s wasthe mostbeautrful prom ever seen at A H S Wrth onlya few weeks left ln the school year and the worrres and hard work of the prom rn the back ground a mrschrevrous urge overtook the junrors rn the form of the mysterrous drsappe trance of a flower ot At the close of the year the Honor Socrety c la 1 med Ross Reuyl V Gross Moroan Salmon Kane Fabrrck Stoller Krrkpatrtck and Lrvezey as the outstandmg members of the class Davrs Gross and Hettre Reuyl were elected to head the S G A and A A Judy Salmon and Ion Lrvezey to edrt the BLUE AND GOLD and ARRIVEDERCI and hm Swann was elected class presrdent Today as semors the vrctors of 56 havrng con quered many obstacles stand ready to face the great estbattle ofall LIFE Trme wrll brrng many changes to the members of thrs class but the memory of A H S wtll remarn fresh rn therr mrnds forever JON LIVEZEY JUDY SALMON 1 ' 1 ' 1 fs ' , 1 - .1 - 1 . u .
