Recogni- tion was given the work of Emerson Mason when he Won third place in a state exhibit of hand woodwork put on by the Illinois Vocational Association at Urbana this year. l34l

The BLUE and GOLDA WHY THE CHIMES RANG The school play this year offered a beautiful spectacle most appropriate to the Chrsitmas season. The church window behind a candle lighted altar was the work of Miss Holland and her art students. Why the Chimes Rang was directed by Miss Geister. The choir music was furnished by the Girls' Glee Club under the direction of Miss Barlow. B e tty Dolby THE FIRST ANNUAL SPRING FETE On May 15, 1933 the girls of Miss Geister's classes appeared in a colorful program of dancing and music. Against a background of pink spring blossoms Mariory Knuth was crowned May Queen. Her attendants were Louise Miller, Nan Iean Crary, Margaret Belcher, and Ruby Iean McEwan. A program of orchestra music under the direction of Miss Barlow preceded the stage program. DEBATING With Miss Elva lean Hall acting as coach, the Abbott debating team debated at Arden Shore Camp, at Lake Bluff and at Elgin High. The subject was: Resolved that the present day movies are iniurioius to people of high school age. THE ART DEPARTMENT The art students under the direction of Miss Holland have made scenery for plays, plates for the annual, favors for banquets, and posters for many occasions. Their colorful products have helped to make this school year a bright one. G. A. A. Awards were given to the girls who passed their volley ball, basketball, tumbling, and horseshoe tests which were taken late in April. l36l
