Look at what we did all term! says Karl. Yea! We motivated a lot of spirit! says Brian. And the senior group shown here set out to prove that our best motivation is clearly shown through our 21 We dance at pep rallies — Tammy and Angela, like others, sell and buy spirit badges and banners ---even the freshmen get into the feeling that we want to Bury the Pirates or other creative defeat sayings on hall posters before each contest 22 In Preparing For Football Games, 23 Reflecting much of our spirit are exciting formations by our cheerleaders, as well as class skits typified here by Richard with the situation well in hand, and Tracy and Lisa sharing one football jersey. 24 25 Causing Angie and Chris to remember several years past when campus life brought moments of laughter, the same as this term's laughter on the faces of Richard and Sydney, not to mention those happy grins on the faces of Jessica and Julie. 26 All this togetherness bringing smiles on the faces of campus citizenry, such as Monique's, at a municipal ac- tivity; Renita's, excited over buying her senior ring; Ru- by's, during that welcome lunch break; Mr. Choate's, sharing good jokes with Mr. Stakes and Mr. Quebedeaux; and Mrs. Bellaire's at receiving ample help after falling during a badminton tournament. 27 Certain adventures leav- ing varied facial expressions, like the pensive look on Chris' face, the uncertain look on An- gela's, the grinny glean on Ka- sperski's, the I like it glance on Sydney's, and the ”1 can't believe it expression on Luqui- ta's face. 28 Oh, yes — this campus life of ours shows us Cathy in deep concern, Yolanda surprised at her locker, Catherine stretching her bubble gum, Vera emphasizing a point, and Beth is a nonchalant approach to an unimportant matter. 29 Perhaps several current moments bringing reflections to earlier times in our lives, like Cheryl Breaux at four months old, Blane Co- meaux in his first full suit, James Neveu in his first football jersey, Todd Chauvin as a one- year-old, Troy Ledet as an elementary foot- ball player, Todd and Pam Chauvin, Laxey Vincent, Neil Bergeron, and Darrell Theall at a do it ourselves barbecue. 30 And further reflections on the looks of Cheryl Breaux and Laura Meaux on Sept. 22, 1979; a small-fry baseball team including our today's “big-fries, such as Mike Mestayer, Richard Frederick, Mike Landry, David Dent, Jaimie Hebert, Jude Frederick, Blane Comeaux, Phil Teer, Quentin Winch, Mark Ledet, and James Neveu; and first graders Randy Hebert, Tracy Sonnier, James Guidry, James Baudoin, Todd Trahan, Patrick Harrington, Cheryl Breaux, Angie Nunez, Phyllis Baudoin, Rachel Winch, Keith Stelly, Paulette Lemaire, Scott Hebert, Paul Broussard, and Jamie Broussard. 31 And a mixture of this then and now produced this pose of Carla studying Civics, this comment- ing face of Kevin defending the purpose of his chapeau, this show of Laura being an excited band member, and these unworried stances by Jaimie and Henry on a not real torture ramp. 32 Henry preferred to fight than switch his view of the spirit of campus life — Patrick claims that's the ex- pression he reserves for anyone who would suggest a switch — Byron and Myron feel that two heads are better than one in keeping that motivation in a campus society. 34 Richard will show his legs, Lisa will hide behind a hall pass, and Jennifer will assist at the intercom if a true show of campus spirit calls for it. 35 Seniors shout pride from the pickup truck that towed their prizewinning homecoming float, shown in full and from Brian's favorite fishing spot; Carolyn and Johnette would not let their stand on the junior float go unnoticed. 36 There's a serious side to campus life, like the dedication of Pam. Latrell, and Tammy as freshman members of the Pep Squad; like Kathi and Christine sharing cultures; like Chris sacrificing TV and other home fun to prepare for a test; like Paulette not being distracted from completing her class requirements; like Tanya listing with a smile to the comments of a friend. 37 Ian smiled with happy eyes here, but several years before cheered an Interact club group, including Bjorn from Sweden, riding in the homecoming parade. Todd Chauvin has waved at several parades since he was a tot. the same way he waved at the Key Club prize-winning float in the homecoming pa- rade. 38 I' Richard Frederick as a second grader never dreamed that later campus life would let him see Patrick ready for the trash can nor Steven without a serious computer look on his face, but he did expect since he and Jude Frederick were a bit older that they would grow up and enjoy the Pep Band at a pep rally together. 39 Campus life establishes lasting friendships like that of Cheryl and Laura shown two years after an earlier 1979 photo together; like that of Pam and Gwen who have twirled their batons together for at least three years; like that of Brian and Jackie who have studied many times together to keep those report card grades from grounding them. 40 It also puts you in poster-tacking moods like the one Chris is in, and in some jigging moods like those that Brian, Beth, Mona, Nancy, Clayton, and Samantha are in. 41 At times, campus life pits you in a playful mood, like the one Richard is in, much to the en- joyment of David, Monica, Greg, and Sydney; or makes you want to kick up a leg like Kim, Kay, Angela, Willie. Dawn, Jodi, Shanna, and Christine. 42 Our togetherness results in creativity like the cuddly little Wildcat teddy bear used in a spirit skit, like Tim letting it all be told at a class meet- ing, like Cheryl, Lori, and Wendy on an Acadian Campground swimming excursion, and like Ro- chelle asking that this picture not be taken, espe- cially if it be reproduced in the yearbook. 43 Very seldom alone we share our joys of educational experience, but sometimes some of us, like James and Jill have to be alone for one reason or another; and David and Lawrence must share a little joke between themselves; and Jill shows a better image when comforted by John; like together conversation is jolly between Yolande and Carol, 44 And we all grim and bear it together, in solos, in duets, and in trios, without musical accompaniment, like Richard and Steven, each solo; like Lisa and Deidre, a duet, like James, Russell, and Lindell, a trio; and like Karl and Rhonda, another duet. 45 Extinguish the thoughts that Sammy had alge- bra on his mind while dancing with his friend, that Cory and Shanna had ever worried about hurry- ing with their baths in time to catch a bus, that Daniel had not prepared himself for that next period test, that Brian and Cheryl had not pre- pared themselves for comfort while watching the parade. 46 Groups of three, six, and two. among other odd and even numbers, chat together before first period class, like the Brian, Joe, and Arvie trio; the Keith Ray, Russell, Margaret, Patrina. Diana, and Courtney sextet; and the Ridley and Ke- vin, and the Denise and David duets, all part of this campus life of ours. 47 Hang around campus as you should and you'll share in the more fun to be had in groups, like Trisha, Samantha, Laurie, Tony, Sheila, Claudia, Jodi, Patrick, Mona, Tracy, and David with the cake-iced face; and like Carl, Chris, Lionel, Myron, Jason, James E., Shawn, Warren, and James T„ all cheering for good ole AHS, And that having fun in groups happens at more occasions than one or two. It happens also when friends applaud Tangee after her name was called as a homecoming maid, and it happens in Sunset where Wildcat fans cheered their players. Campus life has its moments of suspense, like her friends waiting to learn that Willie Lois was named homecoming queen; like Shanna, as were Mona, Karen, and Christine, called as homecoming maids. so Imagine ! ! So many of us get to play around like this and we earn PE credits doing it, and some of us still gripe ... Oh, well, such is it with life, even on our campus. 51 Positively, certainly, assuredly, without doubt, our joy comes in (small) and (LARGE) sizes. Campus life places us in various roles, like the studying or cramming roles of Timmy and Christine; the all-star roles of band members Kevin, Beth, Gwen, Brian, Laurie, and Angella; and the 'show that spirit' roles of Eric, Kip, John, Chris, Lee, Chuck, Brit, Artie, and Randy. Coach Miller's repeated challenge to “hang in there has caught fire on campus, and perhaps Scott shows three ways it can be done, as well as Jamie. Lisa P.. David, Amelia, Susan, Nancy, and Lisa S. beg 'on-the-cot' Leslie to do it dur- ing a senior class homecoming spirit activity. 54 Campus life in the halls often keeps you covered'' - like the hats on the heads of Donna, Darla, and Chris in a special spirit activity; and like the at- tention being given an injured Leslie by Kay, Randy, Susan, Jamie, and Lisa in the senior class homecoming hall spirit skit. 55 When not in serious moods while learning in the classroom, lots of hall hoop-la becomes part of campus life, like the hoop-la being made by Mary Ellen, Ida, Kim, Gwen, Clau- dette, Ginger, Carmen, Ve- ronica, and Paulette in one group, and by Leslie, Clayton, Amelia, Angie, Brandon, and Richard in the other. 56 We develop our laissez-faire” moods, like the one Tracey shows after Quentin's tale of happening; like the smirkish one shown by Mary; like the questionable one shown by Ginger as she listens to Rodney's gossip; like the moods shown by Tricia and Tony after laughing Ronnie told his joke; and like the agreeable smile shown by Lisa and the who cares?” facial mood shown by Lori. 57 Did we say that campus life is lots of friendship? If we did, it's worth repeating and re- proving. There's lots of friendship in Willie Lois' hokey-pokey dancing for the kiddies in Child Development; in Pernell's refreshing Angie, Laurie, and Angela on the process of inverting, fractions; in Karen's standing above the crowd composed of Brent, Darla, Tim, Tonya, Tricia, Keli, Brit, and Monica, to show and shout sophomore spirit. 58 Lots of friendship is shown both on and off campus, like that shown to Sharia by Pep Squad group on her birthday; like the ethnic friendship shown by Henry and Jaimie clowning together at Florida Beta con- vention; like the don't be afraid kind of friendship given by Miss Bennie to Gwen before airlift to Beta meet. 59 And being observant during campus life, we notice moments when moods of indifference are cast, like Ronnie's indifference to the exchange of chatter between Chris and Donna, and the two girls' indifference to Paul's proclamation; like Jude's indifference to the goal of the photographer, like Kevin's and Rachel's indifference as to what an observant group will make of their arm over shoulder friendship; and Kim's evident interest in a romantic novel to cause indifference to Shannon's being a recess neighbor, yet less an interesting conversation- alist. 60 Oh! There's just so much to campus life! At times it can be quite a BANG, as Tim is told di- rectly in the ear; as Lawrence, Lee and Ronnie listen and try to figure out; as Russell, Lionel, Lindell, Alden, and Shannon evidently have heard before; and as Wet Back Manuel is always ready to listen to. Page, Theresa, Paul, and Marie are a bit dressed up, but not for the cake party which fol- lowed the presenta- tion of the cake to the Wildcats by the cheerleaders, shown below Larry, Kern, Jodi, Angela, Kay, Shanna, Kim, and Blane. 62 Location, or where one places himself, becomes part of campus life, and the places can vary, like Jessi- ca's and Julie's reclined lo- cation; and Katrina's and Barbara's ‘phone call' loca- tion; and Coach Harrington's ‘give me your attention' lo- cation while naming Angie, Denise, Regina, Monique, Michelle, Christine, Dawn, and Kay as Wildcat football sweethearts; and Randy's ‘at the prom' location look- ing for his next dancing part- ner. Though Carolyn and, we guess, the Wildcat thinclads tried, there was not Rocketing to a Victory this season, but the multitude of life on campus kept up the spirit, like Monique and Kathleen (how could they hide those pretty faces) in space helmets and Tracy, Waldean, and Christine with un-spaced faces. 64 Literary Rally Greg Hebert (Agriculture I). THE LAW 75 “My goodness, says a pied- faced Stacie at Pep Squad ini- tiation, Campus life is filled with 'dress-up' occasions, even if Kim does not seem too cheery in her cheerleader out- fit here, and Angie seems to- tally content in a casual mo- ment, and Paul draws the at- tention of even an eagle in his suited-up appearance. 76 Campus life can suggest new de- finitions of things — like that model pose posed by Mrs. Jordan, that femme fatale pose posed by Jack- ie, that I can't believe it pose posed by Ginger, that “I must be in the wrong place pose posed by Karen, and that pose of delight posed by Willie Lois and Captain Jude. 77 Neither Lexie nor Greg, nor Jason, nor Kevin, nor even Jackie can imagine just what Jackie has done to her hair. 78 Phil points to the fact Cheryl Breaux was once a first grader; that Angela did well enough at a summer yearbook workshop to receive the con- gratulations of company representative Mr. Ger- ald Landry; and that Jessie, Berwick, and Tracie are a smiling trio among the near one thousand students who contribute to an interesting cam- pus life. 79 Miss Francine sat toying with her garlic jewelry , and the thoughts of Hung, Bjorn, Kim, Mona Lisa, Trisha, Judy, and others were “esculated over what Greg is netting and then swat- ting around the FFA greenhouse. 80 Tonia's expression indicates approval; Susan's glance says it's okay; Jackie's pulchritude connotes laissez faire ; Mr. Quebedeaux convinces Daivd he didn't stand a chance to fall in the lineup below which features “the captain and his crew,'' Jude, Kay, Gwen, Ginger, Tangee, Mona, Kim, Christine, Jodi, Shanna, and Karen, all named homecoming maids. 81 Johnette casts a sly stare and wonders how truly posed are Denise, Cathy, and Shanna in a leg-show antic; how much Mark truly needs that piggy-back ride David is giving him; and just how filed is that saw that Andy seems ready to push and pull across the nape of Donald's neck. It was all in fun, was it not, Joh- Mr. Choate soon learned that even a sculptured eagle may hesitate be- fore responding to his charms; Denise put new spark in auto mechanics sim- ply by caressing the plugs; Samantha, Laurie, Jodi, Tony, Sheila, Claudia, Troy, and Mona helped David de-ice his birthday cake; all leaving Shawn to wonder about the variety of happen- ings during our lives on the good old AHS campus. Rusty, Greg, Terry, Kelly, Blaine, Walter, Pat, Scott, Cobb, and Lee from Key Club. 91 Roderick smiles approval, Mom Millie prepares to record it, Shanna announces it from pillar to post, and Chris proves it — even that Smith lad can get down to it and do some serious studying, which, incidentally, is an important part of our campus life. Then we bring part of school to conventions, like the campaign posters Gwen and Felicia are assembling. Then we see some of us at conven- tions, like Gwen, Miss Bennie, Jaimie, and Henry at state. 99 Life on this campus allows so many opportunities to meet new personalities, like Pernell saying, The pleasure is all mine; Norman saying, Charmed, I'm sure! ; Samantha saying, I'm thrilled, indeed! ; Mark saying, Howdy, but pardon my not getting up! ; Toynette saying, Heavens, I can't believe my eyes! ; and Melanie saying, The feeling is mutual. I'm sure_____ 100 And continuing the introductions, Bobby says a plain old Howdy! ; as Mona Lisa smiles a casual Hello, there! ; and John gestures a saluting How are ya? ; Latrelle gasps a I've been dying to meet you! ; Richard grins a plain I've seen you around but I had never met you personally! ; and Margaret apologizes for her crouched position while exchanging the pleasures. 101 Mr. Joseph Duhon swipes a fast bite between speech tournament contests; Kevin and Sheila became momentary surfers for the benefit of a stage production; Randall, Monica, David, and Jaimie formed a stage crew for a production; Julie, Tim, Richard, Kim, Mona, Judy. Sheila, Tricia. Hung, Bjorn, and another Kim formed the speech tournament delegates, all part of the excitement that goes into living this campus life of ours. 102 This campus land of ours is a land of smile sharing like those some of us shared with Brian and Margaret, like those their friends will share with Julie and Blane when this some time ago picture is noticed, like those shared by Patrick, Lisa, Tracy, Amelia, Clayton, and Christine planning a class skit. Not to mention those shared by Johnette and Samantha and these two Anthonys who are among our campus population. 103 All these struttin' co-eds in Western attire could qualify as knights in shining armor at the call for participation in school spirit activities, as Carrell and James, below, will testify from observance. They pointed to Angela, Ida, Mary, Claudette, Cynthia, Carherine, and a bashful Trisha who really helped to “westernize Western Day as one activity of this campus life. 104 C. J.’s Shop-Rite 1000 S. This exemption may be claimed for five (5) separate years or until receipt of a bachelors degree, whichever comes first. $1500 ENLISTMENT BONUS or $4000 IN EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE High school seniors and graduates who enlist in certain National Guard units may receive a $1500 enlistment bonus, or $4000 in educational assistance. SPLIT TRAINING PROGRAM Split training means that your Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training in the w National Guard (which must be completed within a twelve (12) month time frame) can be staggered to fit your personal schedule. For example, you can take Basic Training the summer of you junior year. Consider it a paid full-time summer job. During your senior year of high school, you will go to yC the monthly National Guard meetings. Consider it a paid part-time job. Then you can take your Advanced Individual Training the next summer, be paid for that, too, and be home in time to attend college, business or vocational school in September. That's two summers of full-time employment, and two years of part- time employment.
