Having no special season, the group gives performances year round, beginning with the first football game and on through various parades, music festivals, concerts, and on to Graduation Day. The schedule is necessarily strenuous. Druing marching season, the band members spend an average of ten hours a week marching, plus an additional five hours a week of actual playing. Every half- time football show, lasting approximately five to six minutes, re- quires three to four hours of rehearsal. Mr. Anthony Fontana The ultimate goal of the Band Department is to develop musician- ship. Along with this, its aim is to produce those qualities necessary for good health and citizenship, good posture, exercise, discipline, and cooperation. 4 S The activities of the Chorus are directed by Mr. Anthony Fontana FIRST ROW: Isabel Strickland, Glenda Miller, Sandra Dugas, Susan Landry, Brenda Benoit, Linda Holmes, Eva Reed, Delores Decuir. The presentation of the story of the birth of our Lord has long been a cher- ished tradition here having begun back in the late 1930’s under the direction of Miss Eloise LaBauve and Mrs. Lula Lewis. Parents of many of our present students remember with pride their participation in this pageant. The Nativity was discontinued during the war years of 1942-45, but was resumed immediately following the end of the hostilities. It is thought that The Nativity has been performed for about twenty- two years and possibly about seventy-five times counting three or four performances a year. 88 John Silar as Herod talks to the Wise Men. 89 The three Kings - Glen Suire, Allen Dubois, and Clyde Landry - offer gifts to the child Jesus. Hunter of 411 5th Street, is a wholesome young American with a warm, outgoing personality. During his twelve years in school he has always been an excellent student and has brought honors to Abbeville High School through his scholastic achievements. As a winner of a Certificate of Merit from die National Merit Scholarship Corpora- tion and as a winner of prizes in both district and state rallies he has reflected great credit on himself and on his school. Bobby's leadership qualities are evidenced by the many honors which his fellow students have given him. He has been a class officer for all four years and is presently serving as president of the senior class. In his sophomore year he was elected to the Beta Club, national scholastic honor group, and Key Club, an international service organization. He has served as an officer in both of these clubs as well as in the Biology Club and the Mathematics Club. This year Bobby is serving as editor of the AHS News, weekly column published in the Abbeville Meridional, and the Campus Chronicle, AHS student newspaper. Many of Bobby's activities have enabled him to serve the community as well as the school. An outstanding example has been his work with the Boy Scouts. Bobby started as a Cub Scout and has been an active scout for about eleven years. Before becoming an Explorer (he presently is president of Post 580) he became an Eagle Scout. Asa scout Bobby has given several weeks each summer in volunteer labor at Camp Thistlewaite. As president of the Key Club, Bobby was instrumental last fall in disseminating information to the voters of the area before the election. Thumbnail sketches of the candidates and brief summaries of the amendments were prepared, duplicated, ana distriDuted to atout 2000 citi- zens. The qualities of leadership and service of this young man are evident also in his religious life. A regular communicant of the Methodist Church, Bobby is also a member of the Metho- dist Youth Fellowship, of which organization he has been treasurer and is now president. The faculty and students of the Abbeville High School would like to congratulate Bobby on his outstanding achievements and to congratulate him, too, for this latest honor, being named Teenager of the Year 1965.
