Mrs. Effie M. Trahan, business man- ager of the Wildcat since 1948, left us on April 9, 1961. Hers was the thankless task of financing the annual, a task efficiently performed each year. Remembering her courage, her devotion to duty, and her service to the Abbeville High School and the cause of education, the staff of the 1962 Wildcat gratefully acknowledges its in- debtedness. DEDICATION This year, 1962, the A.H.S. Wildcat is dedicated to the student body. All of the honors which are bestowed upon Abbeville High come directly from the activities of its students. The rally students, well coached by their teachers, put forth their greatest efforts to place our school on top scholastically. Our athletic de- partment excels because the students put their hearts and skills into the sports. All of the students who follow participants in all of important school activities must not be forgotten. If it were not for those boosters, the students would have no one to excel for. The yearbook has been ours for almost a year. We have planned and worked with it, and now it is yours. We hope you will like it. The Staff PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE The goal of every man and woman is a full and meaningful life. The role of the high school in fostering the attainment of this end is very important. There is a greater need today than ever for young men and women to study more and work harder in high school in order to acquire a broader background of experience. Our school system provides today a better laboratory for the preparation of life than it has at any other time in the past. The present senior class started the custom three years ago. This year the sophomores are proud of the Frosh Dance they sponsored and hope that other classes will carry on this tradition through the years. Besides highly praised half-time shows at football games, the band participates in the Homecoming parade, the Rayne and Abbeville Christmas parades, band days at U. S. L. and L. S.U., U. S. L. solo and ensemble festivals, and gives a Christmas and a spring concert each year.
