LASS ISTORY VV'hat a beautiful dav for strolling along the Beach ol' Liiiel Although we have dime this so many times before, we still have a tendency to glance out upon the vast Ocean of Memories. liut there's something dillierent about it today. As we look more closely we notice the dillierence there are four of the many waves ol' memories distinctly larger than all the others, and each ol' these larger in succession. Upon further exami nation we discover that these particular waves are Iilletl with the memories ol' our Your jov lilled high school vears. ilihe smaller ol' the four waves, representing our I'reshman vear. rolls rather timidly toward the shore, l'or this was the way in which we entered Cannon lliglm School to become ac- quainted with the customs of the school where we would spend three and one-half delightliul vears. As the wave draws nearer, we remember the ones we chose to lead us that year. Bill Bennett led us as president, Linny Baker, vice- prcsidentg hlarthelaine Vlfilliams, secretary: llils da hlaulden, treasurer. To represent our class in Council, we chose .lane Shelton and Bennv llargett. These ollicers and our class adviser, Miss Lois Smith, led us through a very successful lireshman vear. Another newcomer our freshman vear was our principal, hir. li. U. Drummond. But he, as we did, soon became well acquainted with Can! non lligh. The main activitv our lirst year was the liresh- man Class Partv, which was in the I'orm ol' a square dance held in the school gymnasium. lr was the height ol' conversation for everssoblong alterwards. As the lirst small wave breaks and splashes around our feet, we look out towards the second wave, which comes toward us more bravely than did the lirst, for this was the vear in which we shed our titles ol' Creenies and became known as Sophisticated Sophomoresf' At a class meeting our second year, we chose as our ollicers: Linnv Baker, president, vice' president, Buck Cooke: secretary, Carolyn Host, and treasurer, Kenneth Argo. .Ianiee Earle Den- nis and Kenneth Argo represented our class in Council, and Linny Baker was chosen from our class as Student Government Treasurer. We were very proud to have an oflicer in the Student Government, for as freshmen we had not been eligible. Our sophomore adviser, bliss lililabeth Craf ham, aided us in planning our class partx, which was held at lXlirror's Lake. Swimming, plaving golf, and especially eating were enjoyed bv evervone. liour of our classmates, Linnv Baker, 'lean Kat' Davvault, Charles Elird, and .Ianice Earle Den- nis, were tapped into the National l lonor Socielv that vear. VVe were indeed proud ol' them, lor verv liew sophomores get into that organization. ilihen, as we stand lost in remembranccs, the third large wave rolls in and breaks at our Iieet, bearing on its crest those wondrous recollections ol' our junior year. ilihat vear -lane Shelton and Huck Cooke repre sented us in Council. Once again we chose Linnv Baker president. ln liact, our slate ol' olli cers was the same as it had been our sophomore vcar except for a liew changes ol' ollice. Kenneth Argo became our vicefpresidentg Carolyn liost, our secretarv, and Buck Cooke, our treasurer. hliss hlarjorie l larrell became our junior adviser. 'lihen came our lirst class plav. llow thrilled we were that it was our class who could now have the jov ol' four weeks ol' practicing. putting on grease paint, and painting scenerv. Our nlav was Babys Night Out, directed bv hliss Ade line Rogers. ln December ol' that vear, the seniors honored us with a beautiful Senior-junior Prom, using the theme VVinter VVonderland. l.arge snow men, lamp posts, and snow laden trees carried out the scene picturesquely.
