Senior Class History The mid century mark. 1950. found newspapers and magazines buzzing with world wide and national predictions. Although this never appeared in national magazines or made front-page headlines, a very important step was taken by 80 green, wide-eyed eighth graders—we entered high school. Imemdiately we got into the swing of high-school life and elected our class officers under the sponsorship of Mr. Bowen, a red-haired history teacher we all termed a swell guy. Marilyn Erickson was our president: Bob Smith, vice president: Wilma Kamp. sec ret ary-treasurer: and Laurie Adams and Lawrence Brese as Laurel Leaves King and Queen. As we entered our sophomore year, we were minus four people, but soon found we had to get down to brass tacks if we would ever successfully treat the seniors to a prom and banquet. So. under the leadership of Harley Behm. president: Dick Fritzler, vice president: Jerry Vogel, secretary; and Kay Williams, treasurer: the class started increasing the bank roll. Mr. Bowen left that year: however, his place was soon fully reoccupied by Mr. Siebert. Wilma Kamp. president: Gary Freebury. vice president: Laurie Adams, secretary: Lloyd Vadnais. treasurer: and Dick Fritzler and Tony DcCarlo. SAC representatives, really struggled along with the rest of us. selling concessions and sponsoring dances to make that amount of money we just didn’t have. Our Junior year was busy with our two main projects, the play I Remember Mama. which under the direction of Miss Helbing was named very outstanding, and the prom which followed the 'Coronation. since this was the year of Elizabeth’s crowning. We again sold the most Laurel Leaves subscriptions, enabling us to crown Bob Schessler and Marilyn Erickson as King and Queen. The girls voted to send Ann Bishop and Louanne Campbell to Girls' State, while Jay Kaiserman. L loyd Vadnais. and Bob Schessler represented the boys. As seniors, the class won the distinction of producing an all-state paper which really made our editors. Wilma Kamp. Bob Bryan, and Kay Williams, very proud. The class was especially glad when our president. Lloyd Vadnais. announced he would be going to Europe. The other officers. Ann Bishop, vice president: June Zagar. secretary: and Sharcn Fcote. treasurer, kept us well informed and working towards our goal, the yearbook. Class night and the play. Mr. Peepers. were the main stage productions which kept everyone busy. Mr. West named the honor students. Wilma Kamp. valedictorian: Kay Williams, salutatorian: Joyce Jordan ranked third. Before we were fully aware of it. commencement was a few days away. We were looking forward to receiving the diplomas, however, when the band played the first strains of Pomp and Circumstances. Many of us wept, remembering that the past four years were gone except for what would live on in our memories. 59
