D: I refuse to take those courses on religious grounds. G: That is pertectly acceptable, David. You may, of course, have to copy something out of Encyclopedia Judaica to sup- port that statement, hut in your case, I think we can overlook it. D: I ' d appreciate it. G: Well, David, looking at your record, I see that by the end of the summer, you will have completed 129 credits, including all of our residency requirements. This is very impressive. Do you have a checkbook on you? D: Yes. G: Well, if you just make a check out to Y.U., I think I can send you your diploma in, say, ten business days. How does that sound? D: Uh, fine, I think. G: Congratulations, David. You are a Y.U. graduate — and summa cum laude at that. I ' m sure your parents are very proud. Now, if you want to be a candidate for valedictorian at next week ' s graduation ceremonies, just drop your name with Mrs. Goodstein — she ' s on the 4th floor. Next!!

An Admissions Interview at Yeshiva College: The characters in our little scenario are David, a prospective student, and Mr. Goldstein, the interviewer. Mr. Goldstein is entering his office where David is already seated. Goldstein: Hello David. How are you? David: Fine, thank you. G: Get to Y.U. okay? D: Sure, no problem. G: Well, David, I ' m not going to beat around the bush — I ' m going to get straight to business. Did you receive a ' bris? ' D: A what? G: A bris. You know, circumcision. D: Uh yeah, sure. When I was eight days old. G: Excellent! Excellent! I am so happy for you! I think I can convince the Admissions Com- mittee to guarantee a spot for you in next year ' s class. How does that sound? D: Well, great! G: Now let ' s look at your record. I see you spent two years in Israel ... Is that correct? D: Yes. G: UH-Uh . . . hmmm . . .; I see you earned 100 credits there — all A ' s. D: That ' s right. G: Excellent! Excelle nt! David, I think we should have no problem transferring all 100 credits of A to Y.C. Now your transcript only says Hebrew Studies — 100 credits — A. Now tell me, does this also include 8 Bible credits. Biblical Exegesis, Talmud, Jewish History, and Hebrewl,2, 3, and4? D: As a matter of fact, Mr. Goldstein, I was just saying the other day to my friend how I in- deed took all those courses in Israel. G: Excellent! Excellent! I think we will have no problem then in exempting you from these courses. Now you didn ' t happen to take Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at Hebrew Univer- sity in Israel in those two years? D: Uh . . . why yes! G: Splendid! Splendid! Then you will have completed our pre-med major. Provided, of course, that you took A.P. Organic Chemistry and six other credits in Biology in High School. D: Well, I was planning to take those courses this summer at Oshkosh Community College. G: Oh, that will be fine. Just fine. Now did you take music and art? Before
