078 One year after the turn of the century the frame bu1ld1ng known the old Whltney s PO1Ht Academy, wh1ch was bullt 1D 1866 burned the ground Temporary quarters were secured for the school urposes the new town hall and other places A new brlck structure was erect on the s1te of the one that burned Th1s was known as the Wh1tney Po1nt Hlgh School and served the C0mmUH1t3 unt11 1936 Talk of central 1zat1on had been golng on S1nC9 November 1930 The actual vote IH fa vor ot C6Htr811ZHt1OH was carrled December 14 1934 A11 the d1Str1Ct schools, L1S19 Free Academy and other temporary un1ts closed for Thanksg1v1ng vacatlon and the ent1re school was moved to the new Whlt ney Poxnt Central School November 30 1936 In the past fourteen years new equ1pment and departments have been added Last year to take care of the lncreased enrollment 1n the grades a new w1ng,cons1st1ng of f1Ve grade rooms,was erected parallel to the or1g1nal win As f1DaHC9S and crowded CODd1t10DS warrant more rooms w1l1 have to e 1ncluded 1n future plans Some day s new 1nvent1ons and SC19Ht1f1C d6V610Dm0HtS create the demand Whit ey P01Ht Central school w1ll wlthout a doubt reorgan1ze and enlarge to keep pace w1th progress 4

I fully believe that so muc wil be accomplished during the next 50 years that the past ones will be considered as only the simple beginnings of great things Let us remember, however, that no matter how clever man is in producing labor saving devices and lives of comparative ease and luxury unless man continues to improve himself he w1ll not have a1n- ed much.
