Said Barnacle Bill the Sailor 660 N. High Street Delta Tau Delta In Delta Hall Delta Tau Delta was founded nationally in 1858. It was char- tered as Delta Chapter at Monongalia Academy in 1860, but went inactive because of the Civil War. This chapter was reacti- vated as Gamma Delta in 1900. The Wine Cellar Singers, four brothers who sing folk songs, captured the first place trophy in the Sphinx Talent Show, mak- ing the victory the second year in a row for the Delts. In Octo- ber, the Delts and the ADPi ' s working together placed third in the Homecoming float competition. In intramural activity they competed in cross-country and tennis. Gamma Delta Chapter is proud of their scholarship trophies they have been awarded bv their National in the past two years. Campus leaders include the Junior Class President, President of Fi Batar Cappar, Vice-President of IFC, Co-Captain of the Mountaineer football team, and the Co-ordinators of Home- coming, Greater West Virginia Weekend, and the Cultural Com- mittee. Social life is never dull at the Delt house. Their schedule in- cludes the Christmas and Spring Formals, their Sewer Party, Western Party, and the Shipwreck Party. ' Hcv! They ' re looking back! And look at Donald Duck. Marching Along in Beta Theta Pi Founded on August 8, 1839, at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and established on this campus in 1900, Beta Theta Pi is the oldest national fraternity represented at West Virginia Uni- versity. The Betas have been Number One in scholarship for two con- secutive semesters as well as maintaining top standing in intra- murals. Social events held throughout the year include desserts, combo and listening parties, banquets, formals, and the Christmas Party. The annual Miami Triad, including the Betas, Phi Delts, and Sigma Chi s, is one of the biggest social events held on cam- pus in the spring. Beta Theta Pi annually contributes to several philanthropic funds as well as providing the University with many services.
