As early as l858, Miss Caroline Louise Frankenburg esTablished The TirsT kinder- garTen in The UniTed STaTes. NOT only is Columbus The cradle OT The TirsT pracTical kindergarTen work, buT iT also made possible The TirsT Training school Tor The kinder- garTen Teachers in Ohio. AnoTher innovaTion in The organizaTion OT The school sysTem consisTs in The iunior high school movemenT, which had iTs incepTiOn here, l909-IO. AlThough The manual arTs course OT sTudy may have noT had iTs origin here, household arTs and manual Training were publicized and popularized in The Columbus schools. The impeTus given To The- manual educaTion idea here, was The Torerunner oT our vocaTional course OT sTudy. ln l847, Through The inTluence OT I-lenry Barnard, an oTTice in Columbus, Ohio, was creaTed Tor Asa D. Lord as superinTendenT oT schools, The TirsT OT iTs kind in The WesT. Dr. Lord organized The TirsT public high school in Columbus, Ohio, and, iT noT The original, among The TirsT in Ohio. Finally, Thousands OT iTs graduaTes have achieved marks OT disTincTion in The IndusTrial and pOliTical world, aTTording inTeresTing human inTeresT success sTories, iT space permiTTed.
