TRAFFIC JAMMINN: Battling early morning traffic to ensure themselves a parking space Ron Sidman and Dottie Frank Samuelson Prevette anxiously await their turn. With over 1,790 students enrolled, 560 students purchased parking stickers for 377 parking spaces. Students drove to school for transportation tojobs, a convenient way home from after school activities and to shuttle to and from Career Center classes. Titans Set New Standards by Kelle Owens his could have been just another school year recorded in the yearbook of life. After all, during the 23 years since West's inauguration a reputation had been established. This reputation was one that students and faculty alike have strived to improve upon. Over the years the goal has remained the sameg to make West Forsyth the best high school around. According to the Winston-Salem Journal, in 1963 ag high school was a facility that accomo- dated sophomores, juniors and seniors. With this definition in mind, West Forsyth was constructed. Only seven years after the three year plan had been implemented, the Winston- Salem Forsyth County School Board redefined the term high school, allowing these facilities to serve only juniors and seniors in the infamous 4-2-2-2-2 reorganization plan. In 1984 high school took on a new meaning. It was now the home of freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. The number of students rose from 800 to over 1600. Many changes took place to prepare for the increase in students. 26 trailers were added. This addition seemed inadequate since some teachers were forced to float,' as a result of not having a classroom. Nevertheless, help was on the way. A new gymnasium and seventh classroom building was completed in the fall of 1985. These additions were welcomed although only half of the trailers were moved. These changes set the foundation for what would occur in 1987. The opening day enrollment was larger than any ever recorded in West Forsyth history. By the fourth week of school the varsity football team had set a record by consecutively winning five games. Like a dream come true, all fall sports were involved in state playoffs. With a magical start to the school year, 1987 proved that it was definitely a year worth recording. This was the time in which 23 years of dreams were finally coming true. A new winning reputation was associated with West Forsyth, a reputation that symbolized everything hard work and determination could produce. This was a year in which others stood back and took notice of the Titans. 2 f Theme 1 .. . T, ts. -K f if Q. E , -, . , li Lf-A f- . . Mtg., 1, if EL, T T' .
