iackin Their Team to Victor groups, the cheerleaders were supervised by Miss Evelyn Ogren while Diane Simons had the honor of acting as Varsity Cheer- leading Captain. School spirit was further enhanced by the formation of a new group, the Pom- Pom Girls. Practicing long hours, these girls composed clever dance routines which lent diversion to spectators during half-time. Their routines included, Charleston, jingle Bell Rockf, and Gonna Knock On Your Doorfi Divided VARSITY CHEERLEADERS Kathleen Petermann, Sandie Krieger, Diane Simons, Pat Oelhafen, Mary VValter. Kathy Spaeth. into two groups, seniors and juniors, these girls displayed ability and talent. Miss Barbara Henrickson ably advised these girls and was assisted by the two team captains, Laurie Schowalter and Cheryl Fischer. All of these groups, acting together, pro- vided, without doubt, an incentive to the VVest Bend players to strive for victory. The teams' gratitude was best seen as they accumulated victory after victory in almost every event. l Bn TEAM CHEERLEADERS Left to right --- Eileen Yvicdineyer Joanne Schmidt Kathy Rowe Karla Kuss Judi Schmidt Kathy Kauth

. Second in Regional Tournaments Bruce Caldwell usually started while Rick Cinocchio, Duane Enderle, Mike Engel- brecht, and Dave Hammer ably filled the breach at the remaining starting positions. The Badgers relied on their hot ustreakv shooting, both from the court and free-throw line, to carry them to their vic- tories. Although the fast break and full court press were not used as extensively as in the past, they helped to surprise oppo- nents when executed. After starting off their season with a non-conference loss to Oshkosh, the Badg- ers swept their first two conference games with Berlin and Hartford only to lose the next two to Beaver Dam and Oconomo- woc, each by only three points. Perhaps the most satisfying victory came in the second game with Arrowhead when the Badgers beat them by an eleven point margin, revenging a twenty point defeat earlier in the season. Tournament play at Hartford saw VVest Bend defeat Arrowhead and then lose to Menomonee Falls in the championship. For the third straight year, VVest Bend captured second place in the regionals. Butch Buddenhagen was voted honor- ary captain and also shared most valuable player honors with Ken Erickson. Erickson and Rick Ginocchio were named as the most improved players. Ginocchio was chosen as the most promising newcomer on the team. Despite heavy graduation losses to the varsity, Coach Taylor has a number of very capable underclassmen and looks for- ward to a successful year in 1963-64.
