How about a trip to Ireland? Maybe it could have been done for a May Term independent study, but the Wartburg Choir found an easier way. The 67-voice choir, under the direction of Dr. James Frit- schel, was invited to compete in the 1976 Cork International Choral and Folk Dance Festival in Cork, Ireland, during May Term. Besides the enjoyable benefits of seeing Ireland, the choir became the first American choral group to place in the competition. The Chamber Choir, a small singing group made up of choir members, finished second in the Madrigal Competition. Wartburg finished among the top four choral groups in the Open Competition. Working up to the big event of the year, the choir partici- pated in a convocation with Dr. Frank Pooler, toured Wiscon- sin and Michigan during Tour Week, and gave concerts regu- larly at Wartburg. Page 128: (1) In all the excitement of leaving for Ireland, Lee Kirkegaard jumped on the bus leaving his car running and the door open. He finally remembered it three hours later and dialed the Student Affairs office from Dubuque. Page 129: (1 ) Small choir groups entertain with carols at the Christ- mas Buffet.
