C tj K T ,Q I XI k .3 CGMMANDIN G OFFICER George E. Jacobssen, Jr. Captain U.S. Navy The purpose of this cruise book is to provide a pictorial for enabling WABASHMEN to relive in the future some of their experiences of the past. Additionally, this book will give some insight into the day-to-day activities that our parents, wives, and friends were not able to share with us. This cruise book can only skim the surface of what our deployment was all about. lt cannot depict the fatigue at the end of a fourteen-hour day of UNREPSQ or the weariness of a lookout on the midwatchg or the never-ending battle against rust and corrosion, or the 0300 reveilles for our cooks, bakers, and messcooks to prepare our breakfast, or the night UNREPSQ general quarters and manoverboard drills, and most of all the boredom of routine into which we sometimes fell. Thankfully, we will soon forget ,T 'WT these problems. We will, however, remember the cookouts and special chow on the way home, the fact that we never missed a commitment, Pusan, Sasebo, Manila, Hong Kong and Subic Bay, the pleasure of coming into port for liberty after a couple of tough weeks at seag the pride of ship and ship- mateg the feeling of satisfaction in knowing we were the BESTQ and most of all -- coming home! We did a lot togetherg we worked hard, set records, played hard, had our uptimes and OUT downtimesg but what we will remember most of all for all our lives is that we did everything together -- as shipmatesl George E. Jacobssen, JV- Captain. USN A i l
