This year saw the formation of a Girls' Rifle Club at Vestal. The club was under the supervision of Mrs. Rose Tracy. The girls shoot three afternoons a week in the new range under the Clayton Avenue School. The girls were taught the fundamentals of rifle shooting, the nomenclature of a rifle and how to shoot accurately, during lecture periods. At the range they took turns shooting, im- proving their scores, and scoring the targets. They helped to paint the range, to make the mats and charts, and to help keep the range neat and clean.

In February of 1.955 a new club was organized at Vestal. It was a Public Address club under the direction of Mr. Walter Parsons. A schedule of dates for students to make an- nouncements over the P. A. system was set up. Eighty names of interested persons were handed in to Mr. Parsons who called a meeting of all who were able to attend one afternoon after school. Those who appeared tried out for membership in the club by reading old announcements over the P. A. system. Then the best ones were chosen to read announcements in the morning during school. They are: Seniors, Sally Henderson, Joanne Slottje, David Hillg Juniors, Joyce Kushner, Carol Vincent, Joan Hill, Sandy Johnston, Sophomores, Paul McElligott, Sue Berne, Sue Champion, Bob MacQueen.

On floor: Bruin T. Bear. The Vestal Alpha Gamma Hi-Y Club, has been in existance for seven years. Its purpose is to create, maintain and extend throughout the home, school, and community, high stand- ards of Christian character. Our objectives are clean living, clean speech, clean sports- manship, and clean scholarship. The Hi-Y's biggest project this year was the annual King Bruin's Dance. They also sold hats in school colors and writing paper. The sports bulletin board, opening ceremonies for assemblies and parties for the children at the Susquehanna Valley Home, were some of our service projects. Our advisors were Miss Holschuh and Miss Wilherson. The officers were: President, Ruth Moore, Vice-President, Connie Meredith, Secretary, Jeanette Potter. Treasurer, Joan Birch and Chaplin, Roberta Murphey. 103
