One of the most active clubs in school is the United Nations club. It was founded in 1947 and since that time has earned quite a good reputation. Some of the outstanding events on the clubs calendar this year were the two big bottle drives in which they collected approximately 30, 000 bottles earned about 3500, the talent as- sembly put on for both Junior and Senior High which was one of the best received assemblies of the year, and the numerous bake sales held in the main hall during the noon hour. The club donated about S70 to CARE for packages to be sent to needy families overseas. The highlight of the year was the trip to New York City on May 13, 14, and 15. It is doubtful if any members will forget that three -day trip. The club held weekly meetings in the library with Mr. Worster as advisor. 100

This year at Vestal Central a new award committee has been selected to meet with the physical education and Band directors and Dr. Bair to set up a standard for and select the awards that are annually awarded in these activities. LIBRARY CLUB Left to right: Stella Lyons, Lowie Murphy, Betty Moriando, David St. Mire, William Thayne, Donna Rothrock, Arthur Truesdell, Ethel Sisson, John Doug- las, Ronald Stalford, Joyce Orzell, Donna Adams, Bruin T. Bear, Gerald Gilbert, Patty Machovec, James Rising. The chief duties of these organizations are: Q15 to check books in and outg Q25 replace books on shelvesg t3j keep the library neat. The main difference in these clubs is that the senior club has more difficult duties than the junior club. Each year the club plans to take one trip either to another library or a publishing company or a printing company. The advisor is Mr. Crowell.

In February of 1.955 a new club was organized at Vestal. It was a Public Address club under the direction of Mr. Walter Parsons. A schedule of dates for students to make an- nouncements over the P. A. system was set up. Eighty names of interested persons were handed in to Mr. Parsons who called a meeting of all who were able to attend one afternoon after school. Those who appeared tried out for membership in the club by reading old announcements over the P. A. system. Then the best ones were chosen to read announcements in the morning during school. They are: Seniors, Sally Henderson, Joanne Slottje, David Hillg Juniors, Joyce Kushner, Carol Vincent, Joan Hill, Sandy Johnston, Sophomores, Paul McElligott, Sue Berne, Sue Champion, Bob MacQueen.
