VALLEY FoRcE HIELD The colors white and blue are for the sea. The chevron signifies protection with it's V shape referring to VALLEY FOFlGE's lCV-459 service in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, and the two Naval firsts: lil accomplishing the new concept of vertical enveIopment CVALLEY FOFlGE's helicopters air-lifted marines and returned themj and C29 be- ing the first American carrier to return to Korea for a third deployment during the war - this is represented by the two stars. The gauntlet grasping the trident denotes seapower with the gold color representing excellence. The trident point- ing skyward with the point's similar shape to aircraft refer to the mission of CV 45 as an aircraft carrier. The red border is for the courage and patriotism of the Continental Army during that bleak winter at Valley Forge. Also, the color red represents the bloodshed and refers to this quote by George Washington, . . you might have tracked them . . . by the blood of their feet. the thirteen white crosses resembling snowflakes are for the self sacri- fice the soldiers endured, which was the order of the day, during that winter at Valley Forge. mfjtx 'l 1 fwfr.
